Godot Engine

Godot Engine

Takes a long time to test the game/scene
I'm watching tutorials on godot to see how the engine works and I've noticed that when someone clicks the play button to test their game, it opens instantly. However when I click it, I wait around 5 minutes before it opens. (Even if it is a completely new project that has an empty scene in it)

Also I have been using Unity and it always takes around 5 seconds to load when I click play. I really wanna try out Godot but this just doesn't make sense.

I tried godot outside of steam and even tried earlier versions, same exact amount of time to load the game no matter what. I also tried testing it several times after the first but nothing is different.

I restarted my pc and updated it and nothing changed... but a few hours later I randomly try opening godot again and it is waaaay faster. So I guess it works now somehow.

This happened to me also.
Looking in the code I noticed I had forgotten to put a ":" after an else statement.
I killed the project and restarted, fixed the statement and it launched fine after that.
It may have been just the restart that fixed the launch delay.

I have found out why it takes a long time to start and it is really weird. I clicked play and noticed it was taking a long time again and decided to unplug my keyboard and it opened as soon as the keyboard was unplugged. I close and reopen the game several times and it is almost instant now. But as soon as I plug the keyboard back up it takes a long time again until I unplug my keyboard yet again...

Could you open a bug report on GitHub with your system specifications (OS, relevant hardware, especially keyboard) and details on the issue and what you've found so far?

For future reference, this issue is tracked in this bug report: https://github.com/godotengine/godot/issues/20566

It's a driver bug of some specific USB peripherals, which can often be alleviated by upgrading the device's drivers/firmware.
