Xbox trigger fix!
I think I just figured out the problem with triggers not working. For some reason the PC shortcuts had controller inputs assigned to them. I switched input to keyboard and mouse, went to the shortcuts menu, reset them, and then switched back to Xbox controller, and now the triggers work for the first time.

From the main menu, go to Options
Under the 'Gameplay' tab, change input to Keyboard & Mouse
Click on the 'Controls' tab.
Click 'Reset' and click 'Yes' when it asks if you're sure.
Click on the 'Gameplay' tab.
Change input back to your preferred controller. The triggers should work.

Thanks! I have 2 gamepad's (DualShock 4, Ipega PG-9088) and this method doesn't work on the both controllers (((

This didn't work for me either. I managed to get my XBOX 360 controller working by unticking the option "XBOX Configuration Support" in the controller settings of Steam (Big Picture). But I have not been able to get my Steam Controller triggers working in-game.

You need to exit the game and disable steam controller in controller settings for the game then start the game and its fixed
