Where did the Night-terror go?
I fed him the 20 "candies" and left him sleeping in front of Ranger Citadel, but it's been several hours of game play time and he's just never come back...

Is the companions despawn bug affecting him too?

Most likely. No idea if its the same bug as the companions one, but similar things occur with guest followers that aren't actually members of your party.

The Provost in Rail Nomad has a habit of disappearing on reloads or just whenever. VAX oddly didn't seem to be overly affected though.

Its even possible for just regular NPCs to disappear if they are ones that don't have a set location. Sanctity White at the Bastion disappeared on me after I reloaded my game.

Why did you leave him sleeping?

I left my Terror sleeping in Damonta; gently snoring amongst the still smoking metal carcasses of a recent firefight. I wonder if I will ever see him/her/it/whatever again?
I just put him to sleep and ended his poor life... and reaped the massive XP gains from it.

what? He can transform now? I thought he was just for xp.

In the original game you feed him 20 candy and he takes a nap then transforms into a combat NPC that follws you around and helps you whenever you are in a fight. In DC? No Idea what they changed it to or if this is just a bug.

I've never seen nor heard of this. Have you actually done this, or did you just hear it somewhere?

Adding a huge second here. This is the first I've heard of this. Everything I've ever read concerning the night terror says that once you feed him and he goes to sleep, that's it, you lose him as a temp NPC.

The only combat NPC I can think of that randomly joins you is The Provost and he's in no way, shape, or form related to the night terror.

Yes, I did this in the original. It was after watching a video on Youtube where one of the comments was something along the lines of "What is that black shadow thing following you?" that I learned about it.

Can't seem to find the video or any pictues online - maybe I'm going crazy but I distinctly remember seeing him transformed after coming back to the area he slept in after a certain number of hours. He appeared as an indistinct shadow creature with bright yellow eyes and he'd actively attack in combat.

You forgot about VAX who is a combat focused guest follower.

I had always thought that the Night Terror was just in it to annoy the crap outta you and putting him to sleep would allow you to kill him for the extra bonus XP.

I'd be really interested in seeing that.
