Should Tinker's robots one-shot my characters?
Hey. I'm currently in Damonta with a lvl 18 ranger team and the tinker battle is a pain in my ass. The "Killer" robots do a ridiculous amount of damage with their SMGs and usually one-shot one of my characters with each attack. Am I underleveled for this area? Missing something? I love how they spawn behind me when the battle starts as well :o

That's a rough fight in general, but if you're getting one shot you are probably underleveled and/or don't have good enough equipment.

Like Buck said, check your HP totals and equipment. the graveyard in Damonta isn't for the faint of heart but no, you shouldn't be getting one shotted.

By the time you get there you should have plenty of opportunities to buy the better armour and weapons from various vendors. Spend some scrap and it will get easier :)

Computer Science can be extremely advantageous in that battle.

hint hint

Lvl 18? You're on a speedrun? :)

Load a game BEFORE you entered Damonta and make some more levels.

Are you wearing heavy armour? That is, any armour that imposes a speed penalty?

If I remember correctly, the robots with "submachine guns" are actually using energy weapons. That means they get the same damage bonus against anyone in heavy armour that YOUR energy weapon users get against robots.

If you're wearing metal, combat, or (god forbid) goat hide armour, then strip it off and fight in your skivvies. I'm pretty sure the melee enemies will punch through your armour anyway, so you're not losing anything by doing so.

I don't remember this fight causing me any trouble. Use computer science and lots of explosives. Arizona was a cakewalk. You are in for some serious pain in Cali.

Yeah, the killers can one shot you on SJ (maybe Ranger too). They do around 250 points of damage a burst on that difficulty level. Welcome to the first of rebalances by the devs to make the later parts of the game more challenging. I think if you have 5 armor or more you can reduce that damage to a more manageable 125, however I believe the game still treats the SMGS as energy weapons so don't wear conductive armor.

You can make this fight easier by using a bit of stealth to get a good position to start the fight. There is a yellow thresher claw that patrols the area by the computers. When his back is turned, sneak into that area, hack the computers and start the battle with focused fire on him (you can use the computers to break LOS). The killers should waste their first round AP getting into a firing position, and you can use that time to take them down. The octotrons and thresher claws, while dangerous, are less of a threat.

Don't forget that you can break up the fight by when you take down Tinker so it starts its conversation. You can use that break to heal up.

Having Vax and Jaime the Robot in that fight can help as well. The Gamma Ray Blaster should do good damage against the enemies. Don't forget to use torso shots to lower the armor on some of the robots for your heavy hitters.

if you play this game right, it's really easy. Playing on superjerk, cleared out abandoned station at lvl 18 (before going to Damonta), battle with 3 dicers with no deaths (just move about and use precise shots that really cripple those dicers), hired VAX who one-shots dicers and has 3 (!) shots per turn if he hasn't moved. Meaning he kills 3 robots in one turn. Sit back and save bullets. Just don't get in his way. With VAX Damonta was a walk in the park. We really need an ironman mode or some way to make this game harder

If you want to make it harder, don't use Vax.

Hey. Wow, lots of interesting comments, thanks everyone. I'm not on a speedrun at all lol, this is the first time I play this game (well, played the original until the Prison and then somewhat lost interest, but the EE is holding my attention so far) and I never had any difficulty spikes so far, so I assumed I was at the correct level for this. I have a ranger with lv 10 computer science, so cheesing the robot battles before that was easy. From the comments above I get I should have better gear than FALs and G43s and better armor than the green combat armor :P

I couldn't find anythiong better, I was hoping I could buy better gear in Damonta actually. I guess Damonta will be lost to robots if I go back to the citadel now... Where should I go to level up and gear up if I load a save at the end of the canyon of Titan?

The combat armor is conductive and increasing the damage of the Killers. You want the tactical vests for that fight.

You can buy some of the better AZ weapons (tier 3) from Melson at Ranger Citadel, and from a traveling vendor you can encounter in the North. In the armory of the Temple of Titan, there is a crate that drops a tier 3 weapon and in the Railyard south of the Prison you can find a tier 4 weapon in one of the buried caches near the three slicer-dicers. The Railyard is also where you pick up Vax, he's easy to miss but he's standing in a container.

Goat Hide is conductive.. the things you learn by playing video games!
wendigo211 Oct 29, 2015 @ 7:39pm
Yeah, the devs basically decided all heavy armor is conductive and all light armor is non-conductive. Athough, if they looked at it on a case by case basis, the metal armor and power armor (if it uses metal instead of ceramic plates) are the only player wearable armor that should be conductive.
