You can play Wasteland 1 in a browser. But the kickstarter-backers didn't want Wasteland 2 to be a mere browser game. I wouldn't have minded a browser game though. A tile-based browser game with much better graphics than Wasteland 1, and improved RPG qualities. Could've looked great and played great. But no. inXile and everyone else wanted to build on the old Fallout rather than Wasteland. Can't be a big-shot with a browser game. Browser games are for filthy casuals. Modern audiences demand games that are so technically advanced (bloated) that they need modern PCs to run.

I don't think Wasteland 2 is anything but an iPad game in its core. It's not complex enough for anything else.

That would take an extreme amount of optimizing. The game doesn't run very well on slower hardware.
