How to get Gary "NaCl" Wolfe !
Hello all!

I decided to share information on how to get Gary, because he was faced with his recruiting team. Himself visited many forums to find this information. As a result, a solution suggested in a support inXile.

Gary will only appear if you refused the DBM initially, and then chose later to help them in the end by sending the nuke to their repair depot during that final decision.

It is necessary to start a dialogue and answer no (caution after three answers no DBM attacking player). The problem here is that the negative answer the woman at the entrance does not give guns because standing next to Sedler and shoots at you with negative responses. I have decided this issue, throw out all of the weapons at the entrance to the cave (grenades and knives are also considered weapons). Leaving only one grenade, so that she could take my "weapon" and skip to Sedler. Then I went to the mine N7 and sent a rocket into the depot. And it worked out. Gary appeared around the tent.

I hope it help someone.

P.S. Sorry for my bad english. :)

You have to have a certain amount of charisma between your whole team. My first playthrough I couldnt get him until I found the "Dog Collar" which just about boosted my charisma enough to get him. I read somewhere that some characters will not come with you as they think you team is a bunch of losers (paraphrasing). So investing points in charisma is sometimes worthwhile

He was requiring 25 party charisma which a lot. Some tricks to increase party charisma:
For sure the dogs collars and you can find more than one. But also Animal Whispering and dogs. You can tame 3 pets but 3 dogs tamed by the same character won't be 3 time the bonus. But worth try is two different characters each tame a dog (for example Ralphy and Vulture's Cry). Perhaps you can get that way 3 more CHAR points. And with 2 collars it would be +5. VC +4, Takayuki +3, Ralphy +4. For a sum of 16 and your party would need be 9, typically 6+1+1+1.

There's also a perk doubling charisma of the character but it isn't low level.

If OP is right, it's more a bug of DC, it makes no sense to link this recruiting to choose not help them at first.

I picked up Ralphy in the party and up his smart-ass on 5 level. And take perk "Radiant Personality". This doubles the efficiency of charisma when recruiting new partners.

But no matter how much charisma. Gary I could spawn a way described above.

Out of curiosity did you anger DBM by killing any of their people before you met them? Perhaps its easier if you do not.

Though yea it seems he is pretty difficult to recruit in this version.

This is not a bug. The appearance of Garry changed to DC. Here are two responses from tech support:

1. Thanks for getting in touch. In the Director's Cut it appears the conditions for recruiting Gary have changed - Gary will only appear if you refused the DBM initially, and then chose later to help them in the end by sending the nuke to their repair depot during that final decision.

2. To my knowledge, you have to actively refuse the DBM, not just ignore them. I believe you need to use a specific keyword when talking to Sadler ("not interested" or similar), otherwise Gary won't spawn.

I take it that you meant he still will not come with you? Some characters will just not come with you. It depends how you make your choices in the game. It is not like Skyrim where absoloutley every quest can be completed. Wasteland just says tough ♥♥♥♥ sometimes lol

Yes, I killed the two groups DBM before coming to Sedler.

when I read it's just a description of current state, but it's so incoherent that it's still a bug. I know a bug documented is a feature but there are limits to that joke.

EDIT: If that's not a bug then it's a total crap design.

I meant that for the emergence of Gary is not enough to send a rocket to the depot.

Dorok. it looks like it's just a new way to get Gary. But it is a problem with the delivery / receipt of weapons at the depot looks like a bug.

New way? I see only a bug. Ha well ok thanks to this thread I'm warned in case I want recruit him.

Good trick for a player that doesn't want take Ralphy or want him support Smartazz.

EDIT: Ralphy 8, VC 4, Takayuki 3, Two collars 2, Party 9, sum 26 yeah I'll be able take him. I think I'll do this play.

I swear in original you could get Gary by siding with DBM no matter what. Now you have to refuse to side with them or have sadler die to get Gary? That makes no sense.

How would a normal player even go about doing this? If he made the decision in his head that DBM should have control instead of the Mad Monks they would williningly accept DBM's mission, not do a full U-Turn in refusing to help them but then sending them the nuke. The other outcomes, no matter how you arrive to them give you a companion. DBM now only gives you one if you do in a convoluted way.

Today, a support added another answer to my thanks:

As for whether that's intended behavior: truth be told, there was some confusion around that amongst our team. According to some comments in our bug tracker, this change was intended, however, players now expect Gary to spawn in certain conditions he due to how it worked in the original game. It's possible we'll investigate changing it to the old pre-Director's Cut behavior again at some point in the future, since people are used to that now.

Ridiculous, it makes very worry on the quality of QA team, they look totally dumb to not see in 1 nanosecond how stupid and incoherent it is to have to refuse help and them help to be able hire on of their member. Facepalm.
Dorok Nov 4, 2015 @ 3:04am
I'm raging but that's also because it seems I haven't understood how be able hire Gary.

I read you need refuse help them and later send them the bomb. But what means refuse help them? I believed it was to refuse help them by telling it to their chief. But it seems it involves I kill them all.

So does it mean you need refuse since the start when you met the shadow guy?
