[SPOILER ALERT] [SOLVED] Rail Nomad's Camp: Saving both tribes... Anyone managed it?
Hi, I have my team in RNC, and I'm trying to solve this sad war between brothers... Tried recovering the train braker, gave it to the Tops, and they went on a killing spree (not what I wanted).

Loaded the game, thought about convincing them to resume peace talks, they both wanted the freaking golden spike, couldn't reach an impass, the Tops went on a killing spree and...

Loaded again. Knowing what I learned in my previous attempts, I decided to steal the golden spike, so neither of them would have it... Went inside the meeting hall (after turning the lights off, obviously), evaded all the choppers with my lockpick master walking alone, opened the glass, took the spike, and bolt out of there before anyone got wise....

As soon as I leave the building, their leader calls everyone on the megaphone saying my team just stole the spike and had to be put down for good... (WTF?? How did he know??). Anyway, I scaped to Atchinson's camp, went to talk with Carter, but he wasn't home anymore...

Now, I can't go back to talk to the Tops because they aggro on sight...

Anyone got this one right? How can I save both and end the war without any more bloodshed?

The topekans know because you went and say hello before the lights went out, since you're the only new comers, it must be you.

To make peace between the tribes and recruit Chisel, you need to save Casey's daughter from his own bomb by disable the bike bomb, you need to talk to topekan chief and ask about how he lost his arm, he will mention he needs 2 arms to drive the train, DO NOT ASK to get the golden shoe back for him, then talk to Casey tell him how he almost killed his own kid, then talk to topekan chief, talk to Casey to finalize the truce.

I believe you need certain level of talking abilities to make it happen, I believe smartass 6.

Jeez... Ok, now I see what went wrong... I'll need to do all Camp again, then. :(

It's ok, now that I know where the stuff is, I'll be able to do it a bit faster. :D

Thanks. :)

yeah my walkthru said a kiss ass check or a smart as check could do it. but its a smart ass check. or you could just be smart.

that said it was several playthrus before I managed to peacefully resolve the conflict.

Great, I've been trying to solve the war by peaceful means I wasn't able to do so - I don't have much in smartass.

I really like this game but the quests are a bit weak. There should be multiple approaches to solving this quest peacefully. At the very least, something should indicate that I can't solve it. Instead, when I tried to talk to the chief I never could talk to him, but the game never gave any indication of why.

Something to improve for Wasteland 3.

You dont need smartass to do it peacfully. There are already multiple ways to do it peacfully. If you couldnt talk to him you must have done something earlier to anger them. The quests are one of the best things about W2. So many different ways to complete them.

This is, IMHO, one of the most annoying quests in the game. It is possible to solve it without needing a speech check, but you have to thread a needle to do it. One key part (that I missed last time through and had to reload a much earlier save) is that you have to recruit Ralphy and let him talk to Jesse and convince her to go home (after you've disarmed the bomb). If you don't do that, Jesse is imprisoned and the whole deal goes to pot.

you can still get them to do peace if Jessie is imprisoned. with a smart ass check.

If anyone still looking for other peacful way to resolve their conflict.

I saved Ralph but did not defuse the bomb so Jessie died. Then I'm just talked to the leaders (topekan first, then I've killed railway thieves, after that I talked with Casey and told him about his dead daughter). When I back to Kekkebah I told him about the railway thieves firstly and right after that I picked that option with one arm. On the meeting they used Golden Spike symbolically to repair the rail and here you go bros!
