If you have the Way of the Squeezins quirk they're essential, otherwise they give you +3 Strength -2 Speed and -2 Intelligence for 300 seconds. Which can be useful for some Rangers at certain times, depending on what attributes they have, and if those are temporarily affected by various debilitating effects.

Say for instance that you have Strength 7 or less, and various status effects from nasty critters bring down your Sped or Intelligence (or both!) to 1, then you could regain an Action Point by getting Tipsy from drinking alcohol such as a bottle of Snake Squeezins, because you get one Action Point from every full four points total in Strength, Speed and Intelligence. It's very situational though, so not really worth the scrap.

If you have Strength 3 and want to wield a Proton Axe without -60% Chance to Hit, some alcohol would let you do that. If you have Strength 4 and want to wear Pseudo-Chitin Armor without and extra -0.6 Combat Speed, alcohol would let you do that too. However, when those things turn up in the game you'll have access to a different source of alcohol that is much cheaper than Snake Squeezins. And long before than you'll be able to buy beer, which is also cheaper than Snake Squeezins.

yeah basically they are for building a snake squeezins character.

you'd consider having 1 INT and/or 1 speed to avoid the penalty entirely. then it would just give you +3 strength which is most of the way to an action point. so like 7 STR 1 SPD 1 INT.

gulping down a squeezin gives the +3 strength and triggers WotS?

using additional stat points in Coord and Awarenes to make up for the lack of speed.

I guess.

It's very difficult to make a Speed 1 and Intelligence 1 build that wouldn't be better without relying on Tipsy from alcohol for the +3 Strength. In general I'd say it requires that the build is supposed to have high Charisma or Luck, because just Coordination and Awareness wouldn't make up for being restricted to Speed 1.

And no, a Way of the Squeezins character can not get Tipsy from alcohol, so no +3 Strength for them. They only ever get the "Sweet, Sweet Squeezins" effect for 90 seconds when drinking a bottle of Snake Squeezins.

I've found that I generally have entirely avoided all of those consumables due to right clicking actually using them, and not providing even a hint of detail.

Each time I played through, I thought maybe I'd wait until the end of the game and then never bothered.

The first food/drug item I actually tried were the hard boiled eggs (due to that reward providing so many of them) and it took a number of action points and the reward was a few HP restored and 1 action point bonus--for 10 seconds.

10 seconds

even the night terror didn't want them. i ended up storing them in the locker in the hopes they could stink up the place and cause a reaction from the characters not out on the road with me. but alas. not even Ertan had a comment about the sulphorous stench emanating from the unrefrigerated storage locker that shared consumables and sweaty armor and clothing and junk like angry pouches. merkins and used chastity belts.

Anyway, I recognize I could simply look up the effects, and I have, but... again the rewards seemed minimal except for a few one-of-a-kind items. And since those were rare/unique and non-replenishing, I always saved them for an exciting moment and then forgot to use them.

I've come up with two theoretical uses for hard boiled eggs. The first one is to have one of your highest Combat Initiative Rangers eat one right before combat, so that they'll get the +1 AP for their first turn (within 10 seconds) without having to spend 2 AP in combat eating it. The second use is for some other Ranger to feed an egg to a Ranger who could really benefit from +1 AP and/or +1% Chance to Hit, while the Ranger doing the feeding wouldn't lose much (or anything) by spending 2 AP. That second use would require both Rangers to get their turns rather close to each other, as each turn taken by anyone advances time by two seconds.

Yeah that is a hard egg to crack (i give up, pun intended :) ). I like the ideas.

Due to the variability in combatants, I couldn't reliably pick who's turn it will be that's next, unless perhaps they have the combat initative rings, which may make them come up sooner if not later (or a few times, as is often the case with my sniper).

Usually what happens for my first turn is that my sniper uses a precision shot to take out the arms or legs of something, and then that immediately starts combat whether I hit or miss. I'll have to see eating the egg, then shooting, and see if the time permitted to take my first shots is enough to properly use the extra AP depending on combatant placement the time it takes for me to get and take my turn (which sometimes goes unexpectedly once combat begins due to an alteration in the enemy or even my own line-up).

Whose turn will come next should be easily visible in the initiative queue on top of the screen. And with each combatant up there taking 2 seconds, one egg should last 4 or 5 queue-spots. So if you see a fellow Ranger up there, and your current Ranger is right next to that Ranger so they could use an egg on them without moving, and if you know that fellow Ranger could get an extra attack with +1 AP, then it might be worth it. So extremely situational, I'd say.

Much easier for your quickest Ranger to just eat an egg right before a fight, assuming that they're quick enough to always get to act first in a fight. Though even that would be troublesome if your sniper is sitting down at maximum range, waiting for a target to randomly wander into sight/range, as ten seconds would then quickly go by. And eating the egg when the target is already in position might cost the opportunity to take the shot as the target wanders away again.

It sounds like the overall assessment of the incredible, questionably edible, egg... is still nebulous, teetering back into the 'sell as junk' or as a means to strange role playing ends.

I am good with micromanaging, but eggination is just too much effort to get much out of it.

Do you use and value Scotchmo? If so, then yes, they are worth buying, for his happiness is priceless.

When you're playing the game with a deliberate handicap that DOESN'T restrict you from using consumables, those things are a GODSEND in the tougher fights! Free superhuman stats for an entire extended battle is ridiculously powerful. It's like Fallout Tactics all over again, except no drawback... <.<
