Thanks zeon for the response, so yeah keeping rose but changing up my team as I am really liking the smg/brawl combo on my lead with my scout providing mid range support (AR+lock/cracking) and my sniper going with demo support and toaster repair
If you don't like Rose because of her personality, well... nothing you can really do about that. I'd just say that she's WAY more preferable to some of your other options later on. XD
I like Highpool but the recruit you get there talks like a Hollywood Indian, not a Native American. I'm surprised that I can't purchase cigars from her out in front of the drug store. AG Center is a Doctor character, Highpool a Marksman/Animal tamer character.
There is a spoiler for the VC character but I'm going to leave that one alone here.
I'm getting seriously strong FO vibes (for obvious reasons)
Besides, I usually make 10 INT skill monkey as my default ranger, so there goes the biggest pro-AG reason out the window.
One of my core rangers died almost immediately, I hadn't trained a surgeon yet...lol.
By the time I got through almost everything and was about to fight the "boss" I was worn down, one ranger missing, no heals, low on ammo, under-levelled and he pretty much just wasted us in about 2 rounds.
I can see that being a good playthrough for normal or rookie, or for a second time through on higher difficulty with a well tweaked squad...but man I had no idea.
Taking what I learned in AG, I reverted to an earlier save and went for Highpool. Cleared it pretty easily.
And that's the power that comes from the knowledge that one can avoid triggering the distress calls and head for Rail Nomads Camp instead of Ag Center and Highpool. I can see how playing the game for the first time and going for Ag Center would be very likely to end in a disaster.
So next play through I went to the railroad headquarters place mostly to find the guy who was with Ace when he died. Then I fell into that whole quest line picking up Ralphie then passing on the drunk hobo guy. Somehow I missed the store (I have since been back and found there is one) in that area since I was low on everything I decided to go back to the ranger citadel. While traveling there I got the distress calls so decided to go to AG center this time. I started down that path then after clearing the mushroom cave I decided to see if I could make contact with Highpool to start helping with their situation. While traveling I got the Red Scorpion message saying it had fallen and was their's now. So I turned around to go back to AG center via a oasis, but I got a message that it had fallen as well. I saved at that point so I can go back to see where that path leads. Then reloaded to before I left AG center and finished that quest line. The map there really shows the problem with isometric maps in this game as I seemed to have to be zoomed way out or way in as walls and such seemed to get in the way a lot. There is probably more experience but I always seemed to be struggling to manage ammo and heal items. At one point I was stuck at a door as no one had lock pick and the 11% brute force option was no help. Luckily I found a stick of TNT in a crate so I was able to blow that door up to continue.
Overall I am liking the gritty feel of the game as it is a struggle to find enough ammo and equipment to keep going. The choice of water or food that should have a far reaching effect for everyone in the wasteland is a nice touch. The only thing I would like is if you could get more skill points as leveling seems kind of meh as it takes a couple levels to really be able to develop a build. On the other hand it does seem to make your choices count more as not having a skill like lock picking can make things way more difficult.
No upgrades on weapons or anything. I didn't get a decent weapon upgrade through the mission either. Thankfully I had Angela on my party and Rose was a good addition because I had no surgeon also.
It took me sooooo long to get through it, so many reloads. I ended up not solving the vent puzzle, simpy walking through it. It is not a starter area at all.
I guess designers had too much fun in this area, as the lady there kept giving new missions, and then there are three more ifection missions around the world.
From AG center without dropping at the citadel I went to highpool. And I wish I fought the raiders there instead of the zombies at ag center. Would have spent less ammo and gained better drops, I think.
I prefer fighting humans in this sort of game, unfortunately the game keeps sending monsters which are just ammo and HP soaks. In every map there is a cave or tunnel or some plains where there are crocodiles that are super tough... And not fun to play against, since all they do is walk at you and bite you.
I like the game, I missed this level of party planning and specialization. Just, the tactic part is not as good as Fallout Tactics and RPG part is not as great as Fallout.
