Can you only buy ammo in stacks?
Have done many encounters, but not one ammo, weapon or anything of value has dropped. Just worthless scrap. All my shots are min 70% chance and most miss. Tried the melee weapon, but that has missed every time.

Only 2 characters have ammo now and I can't afford a whole stack. I can't find a way to buy just 5 ammo, but there has to be a way right??

In the Linux version (and I imagine on PC as well), double clicking (maybe right mouse button?) on a stack opens a small pop-up window where the player gets to choose how many to buy, plus the scrap cost per unit.

And yeah, most raiders and others tend to just drop junk items that you're supposed to sell to then buy ammo. But occasionally some might drop their weapon. Which you can then use, and if you find more, you can scrap those weapons to get weapon mods. The higher your Weaponsmithing skill, the more of the available mods you can get, and the more broken weapon parts you can get (2 to 2 x skill level). Broken weapon parts sell for a lot inside he Ranger Citadel interior.

The best way* to avoid ammo problems before you've been allowed entry through the citadel door is to go as far west as you can, pick up some loot in a hidden cache, then go north, to reach Rail Nomads Camp, where you can turn in that loot for a hefty profit. And also get better weapons for free in various places. Better weapons waste less ammo.

Once you've been cleared for entry into the citadel interior you can just buy the TNT sticks from the store outside, scrap them with Weaponsmithing, and sell the broken weapon parts for a profit inside. So you'll never run out of scrap.

* Well, maybe not the best way. You can also go pick up a robot follower who'll do all your fighting for you. You can do that even before entering Highpool or Ag Center, but not without triggering the distress calls that are two of the very few time-sensitive quests in the game.

I found some ET cartridges, is that what you mean? They show zero value though.

Yeah, it would take someone with a special interest in such items to consider them worth anything.
