Field Medic glitch?
I'm new at this game, so perhaps I'm missing something obvious here, but it seems the Field Medic skill doesn't work. I have a character with a few ranks in the skill, which claims "this skill can be used both in and out of combat". However, when I click on the skill to use it, I get a little icon that looks like a medical cross. When I use that icon to click on an injured character absolutely nothing happens. It won't let me use the skill!
Does anyone know if this is some sort of glitch with the game? Or am I just doing something wrong here? Please help! Thanks.

Do you at least have a bandage on the character?

You need medical kits to use the skill. People without the skill can only use pain-killers to heal (try not to do this if you can because if you save them up you can then sell them for a mint to the doc inside HQ). People with the skill can use medi-kits to heal themselves and others. Better medi-kits need higher levels in the skill to be used.

The only time clicking on something with just the cross with no medi-kits equiped on that person will work is when you find something you can use the skill on out in the world (as in something out in the world that isn't a part of your party).

TL:DR It's not a glitch, you dun goofed.

You should also work VERY hard not to get injured and need medpacks in the first place
The easiest way to get healed is to level up.
You get all your health restored when you level up
So save those medi packs for when you actually need them and level up when you can

It should probably be mentioned that the heal when leveling thing only works on the first two difficalty levels. The top two don't have that.

So if you're on one of the lower two you'll be fine. And if you're on one of the higher two.... Well good for you mate jumping in the deep end right off the bat like that. I'll be sure to bring flowers to the funeral.

Ranger isn't that much worse than Seasoned. There's plenty enough medic packs in the game, and the opportunities to get scrap to buy even more. And Supreme Jerk seem to mainly require more reloading when making tiny miscalculations. (I was so sure that machine gunner wouldn't move a couple of steps and then shoot the Ranger I had out in the open... Next attempt I was much more careful, and it went without a hitch, despite my team being quite under-levelled for those Rail Thieves.)

Don't forget doctors healing you for free!

Seriously, most doctors in the game will heal your ENTIRE TEAM for absolutely no charge! The first doctor NPCs who even begin to ask for money require a pittance (15 scrap) for the service, and you'll quickly find doctors who will become indebted to you who will offer free services once again.

Really the only part of the game where healing will be entirely your responsibility is the FINAL BATTLE, because even at the end of the game there's a no-charge doctor!
