Online multiplayer problems.
A friend and I have tried everything to play together. For all intents and purposes, it at least appears that we are successful, no error messages, both 'seem' to connect. If the host closes the game, the player receives a message about the server, etc.

But we don't actually connect. We don't share the game world in any way. We don't see each other, or each other's chat messages. And each of us sees their own quest details on the right of the screen.

So, I have two questions at this point, is there any reason a person on PC and a person on a laptop can't play together? And second, does the online multiplayer feature work at all at this point?

Thanks for any input.

Hi Pootwaddle,
when playing multiplayer, please make sure you that there is nothing restricting or even fully blocking your connection.
So please have a look and check following:
  • Check, if you have a stable internet connection. If you are using WiFi, use a wired/cable connection, if possible, to prevent any possible interruptions.
  • Make sure you have enough bandwidth available. So disabling all downloads, streams, closing all tabs in your browser is recommended and check if no one else in your household might “steal” bandwidth.
  • Check, if Steam and Vikings - Wolves of Midgard is not being restricted/blocked by your Anti-Virus program. Simply set exceptions for both applications.
  • Check your Firewall/s (Router, Windows Firewall, additional Firewall, e.g. Norton) if exception are set for Steam and Vikings - Wolves of Midgard in addition.
  • There are no specific ports needed to be enabled manually in your router.
Nevertheless if your Router features the option “UPnP”, we would recommend to enable this option, as it simply enables programs, such as Games in general, which are using multiplayer, to open the ports needed on their own, without opening up huge ranges of ports.

Disclaimer: Those listed points have to apply and need to be checked by both players, not just the host.

I know I tick all those boxes, and if something changes, I'll post here.

I do want to express my appreciation for the quick response, Unerde. And I do enjoy the game, very much.

Thank you.

Hi, I have the game on GOG and my friend has it on steam. We have been trying to play online coop but the "find game" option directly joins a random game, there is no hosts list or search parameters that would allow us to play together, im not sure how it works, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
