GPU runs way too hot...
Even at the lowest settings I'm getting over 190 F/88 C. To put it in perspective, I play Marvel Heroes 2016 a lot and at max settings, I'm somewhere in the 160's F. When I tweak those settings, I can get it to drop down to about 145 F. As a result, I believe the game crashes because my hardware can't handle the sustained heat for longer than say 45 min if not less. I've got 4 fans total blowing in and out and MSI Afterburner pushing the in and outtake fans at max velocity. The last crash that happened today (the last of the 4) actually forced me to do a hard shut down because it froze and ctrl+alt+delete and win+tab did nothing, and I hate doing that.

As much as I like the game, even with all of it's shortcomings and issues, I'm gonna have to stop playing until a fix is in place so my comp doesn't melt on me.

So what kind of GPU do you have?
My guess is that the game is crashing / video card overheating because you're using a relic, an item from ancient times (in the technology world). Newer games give way to better graphics in turn, require more power. The GTX 570 is a very old card so my guess is that you are experiencing this issue due to ancient technology.

Hello Noom Flow.
Could you provide some more details about your system and also settings you have made/changed in Vikings in order to reduce heat?
What about heat building up inside your machine itself? Probably it is too crowded, or already gathered some dust and simply needs to be cleaned up?
Please provide as much details as possible, in order to speed this up and getting most proper help.
-cheers
Played for a couple of hours last night and about 30 minutes just now and for w/e reason, the temp hasn't gone above 115 F and I haven't done anything different to the settings. However, my fps has dropped from 50-60 to no higher than 11. The gameplay has become very laggy and choppy.

Now, to the info above. I've had the settings maxed and minned to try and get the temp to reduce and weirdly enough, when I have the settings at the minimum, the temp actually increased by anywhere from 5-10 degrees, nearly pushing 200 F. The tower is an old Cooler Master Haf 912. Plenty of space and I keep a very close eye on dust build up, which at this point is very little.
