ENDLESS SKY MAFIA IX: <insert name here> SIGNUPS CLOSED: MAFIA WIN

The Premise:
The setting is Poisonwood around the year 2980, days before the Navy complete the liberation of the planet from pirates. The players are a group of labourers that have been moved to an underground bunker by the pirates that own them at the request of a group of Alphas for.. experimentation.
The Alphas wanted to know how well they could brainwash and physiologically modify ordinary humans to be more like themselves and still blend undetectable among ordinary humans in order to create double agents that they could use in their neverending war against the humans.
They set up this underground bunker to be the site where their test will be carried out in order to test the ability of their new 'toys' to do their jobs.

The group do not know that they are being held by Alphas as part of an experiment, they have merely been moved from an overground work camp to an underground one by their pirate overlords and they expect to survive as long as they keep producing.
Little do they know of the wolves in sheep's clothing in their midst.
The group will be significantly smaller when the Navy finally finds this bunker. Who will be left?



In Mafia, there are day and night phases. During the day phase, all currently alive players vote to lynch someone. Upon the lynching occuring, the victim's role is revealed. If the lynching results in a tie, the players with the joint highest votes get lynched. During the night, the Mafia get to choose someone to murder and one of their own to carry out the act. Special roles also perform their actions during the night.

THE ROLES:
Mafia x4: The mafia have been experimented on by the Alphas to make them sadistic killers. Each night, they will choose a player to murder and one of themselves to carry out the murder.
Detective x1: The detective is a member of the group who has a certain set of skills, acquired over a long career. They are able to visit one member of the group every night and identify the role of that player, undetected. Their findings will be made public in the night scene post.
Bodyguard x2: The bodyguards have also been experimented on by the Alphas but instead of gaining some Alpha traits, they have been given some Beta traits. Each night, they each choose a player to target and will hide out near their room all night. If a mafian attempts to murder the target, the bodyguard will save them. When a bodyguard successfully saves a villager, there is a 50% chance that neither them nor the mafian will be harmed; a 25% chance that the mafian is killed and a 25% chance that the bodyguard is killed.
Villager x9: Standard villagers. They have no night actions. No special skills. Nothing. They are merely able to vote during the day on who is to be lynched, just like everyone else.


THE RULES:

• Absolutely NO role revealing. It ruins the game. If you reveal your role, you're a class-A ♥♥♥♥♥♥ person and may be barred from the next game. Don't do it.
  
• Don't go round trying to get people to reveal their roles to you. If you do that, you're a class-B ♥♥♥♥♥♥ person.
  
• You need to be on my friends list here on Steam or in the ES Mafia Discord[discord.gg] so that I can PM you your role.
  
• When signups close, I'll PM you with your role and put all the Mafia in a channel on the Mafia Discord server. If you're a Bodyguard or the Detectivve, PM me during the nights with your target.
  
• Days and nights will each last 24 hours; I'll try and get day vs night death posts and lynching posts up on schedule but I won't always be able to.
  
• Signups are open either until we have 15 16 players, or until 12pm UTC on the 31st, whichever comes first. Obviously, if we have fewer than 15 players I'll adjust the number of roles as appropriate.
  
• There used to be a rule about minimising off-topicness, but since the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ing thread is no longer a thing, more or less go wild within the bounds of reason.
  
• Try not to be a complete and utter♥♥♥♥♥♥ Flaming is banned.
  
• Have fun!

If you're wondering how these rules are to be enforced, well, let's just say, the Alphas want to have usable data from their experiment so anyone who disrupts that will be eliminated from teh sample. Also, the mods will mop up your asses.

ALSO INTRODUCING:
ENDLESS SKY MAFIA LEAGUE

Over the course of ES Mafia VIII, IX and X, we're trialling a league system whereby each player receives points in each game they play for various things. The points totals in each game are cumulative; so if you get 5 points in VIII, 3 in IX, and 4 in X, you'll end this season of the league with 12 points.
For each game, the plan is to award:

• 1 point per day/night cycle you manage to stay alive for. (So you get 1 point if you survive both night 1 and day 1, a second point if you survive night 2 and day 2, and so on)
  
• 1 point per successful action: if a mafian successfully kills someone, they get a point; if the detective finds a non-villager, they get a point and if a bodyguard saves someone from being murdered, they get a point.
  
• 2 points per lynch you are deemed to have caused by the Game Host. In this case, me, warp_core.
  
• 3 points if you survive the game.
  
• 1.5x your average points for hosting a game; if you have no points, you will receive 1.5x the average points per player for the game you hosted.
  
• 5 points distributed over the course of the game, as the host sees fit.

At the conclusion of Endless Sky Mafia X: The Mafiashank Redemption, the points totals will be tallied up and the winner will receive bragging rights and/or possibly a points boost for the start of the next season.
If all goes well, we'll iron out any flaws in the league system and have Endless Sky Mafia League Season 1 ready to go for Mafia XI- from Season 1 onwards, each season of the league will run for five games, with about a month or so's break in between seasons to prevent Mafia fatigue.

Night 1

As the facility moved from day to night mode and all the lights were dimmed, each member of the group made their way to their own bunk room, tired from the long day of work they had been forced to complete. A few had hope that eventually they would be set free but many were resigned to the fact that they would live out the rest of their lives in this facility.

Once everyone had gone to bed, the two bodyguards made ready themselves for the night's work. They knew that a subset of the population were up to no good and intended to see that they did not succeed. They made their ways to their respective targets' bunk rooms and hid out in nearby storage rooms, ensuring that they would see anyone attempting to enter the rooms.
One was at Takarada's quarters and the other at Storm Crow's.

However, neither of the bodyguards had selected correctly. The mafia had already decided their target in the late evening before going to bed and deep into the night, one of them ventured out into the corridors of the facility and made their way to the unfortunate's abode. Carrying a pair of electrodes and a small power cell, he quietly let himself into Startome's room.
Startome was still asleep. The attacker climbed on top of Startome as carefully as he could, trying not to wake him, something at which he failed. Fortunately for him, Startome was too tired to put up any considerable resistance and he was able to pin him to the bed with is weight and held his mouth shut with one hand, using the other to pull out the electrodes, one at a time, and forcing each into one of Startome's eyes. The scene was gruesome, Startome however, fortunately for him, was unable to see it now. As soon as both electrodes were in place, the magian connected each to the terminals of the power cell and watched as Startome's body shuddered as though he were having a fit. He left the electrodes and power cell in place; the seizure gripping Startom's body would only cease when either his muslces had broken down to the point of being unable to respond to the electrical stimulation they were receiving or the power cell was drained.

The detective, meanwhile, made ready to investigate one of the group. Grabing his bag of undisclosed contents beyond a magnifying glass, he made his way to Storm Crow's room. Once there, he let himself in with some lockpicks and, seeing that his target wasn't present, proceeded to go through all his possessions, making sure that there was never so much out of place that he couldn't easily hide or leave without leaving a trace at a moments notice if necessary. The bodyguard outside of course saw the detective entering the room, his intentions were made obvious by the fedora he was wearing. It was however, not possible to identify him due to a lack of light hitting his face. As the detective's investigation progressed, it became evident why Storm Crow was not present: he was a bodyguard and was likely busy protecting someone.

Day 1

As the facility entered day mode, the group gradually awakened and gathered for breakfast. They were all visibly worried when Star still hadn't shown up even as they were finishing up and so they went to his room to find him. They were met with a horrific scene. The seizures that had gripped Star's body at the time of his death had since stopped due to a lack of energy left in the power cell. The tissue around his eye sockets was visibly burned and his body had started to swell as a result of the bacteria in his stomach breeding with abandon.

After everyone had recovered from the scene, they gathered to determine who would be lynched for the murder of Startome. Crow, knowing that no innocent would vote for him, immediately accused Sage and Awful agreed. Bluebolt voted Javulis. Crow appeared to be having an internal conflict about who to vote for and was switching wildly between Sage and Takarada as thopugh he were the one having a seizure.
Eventually though, those who had voted had settled, Kile just agreeing with the majority knowing that he could do nothing to stop a lynch that was most likely to kill a villager.

Javulis was to be killed.

He didn't react as he was stood on a chair and a noose placed around his neck. At the last moment, The chair was kicked from under him and Janaszar decided this was the time to speak up as he shouted: Sage for lynching. But it was too late. He still didn't know who Javulis was.

After he was dead, Javulis' pocket were checked and his room searched. Nothing remotely incriminating was found. Kile had been correct: they had lynched a villager.

They all got on with their work, trying to deal with the fact that they had killed an innocent and hoping that they would be the next lynchee.

Night 2

As night drew in, the group, like the previous night, slowly dispersed to their rooms to sleep. Unlike the previous night however, they were all wondering about what state the dead body they find in the morning would be in and each was made anxious by the thought that the body could be their own. Except the mafia. They were deciding on their target.

The bodyguards again, intent on ensuring that the mafia would not kill their target, found hiding places nearby their respective target's room: One near Kryes and the other near Gingerboyz.

The detective, meanwhile, was suspicious of Takarada, presumably after his vote to lynch Storm Crow, someone known to be a bodyguard. He made his way to Takarada's room and let himself in by his usual method and, like the night before, found his target absent. He got to work, knowing that he could be discovered at any moment. It did not take him long to find what he was looking for in the form of an assortment of knives. He also found a set with a single, apparently very sharp, knife missing. Presumably taken to conduct a murder. He had all he needed and quickly left and made his way to his own room. Shortly after, Takarada returned, feeling quite pleased with himself.

While his allegiances were being determined, Takarada was at the bunk room of Dylan. Killing him. Like with Startome however, the mafia did not want Dylan to die quickly and wanted to lave a horrific scene for the rest when his body was discovered. After he was finished testraining Dylan, who was now tied, lying face down on his bed, unable to speak, Takarada got his knife out and got to work. The mafia had decided that Dylan would by killed via the `Blood Eagle`, an ancient form of execution. He started by cutting through the ribs where they met the spine, being glad that he had brought such a sharp knife for the occasion, savouring the sound the bone made as he cut through it. Once he had severed all the ribs on each side, he reached into each hole and pulled out Dylan's lungs and placed them on his shoulders to form sort of wings. His victim numb to the pain by this point and barely still alive, Takarada left, telling himself it was a job well done.

Day 2

Given the discovery made by the detective the night before, there was little doubt in the minds of the group of who to lynch. Many voted for Takarada. Many remained silent. Takarada voted for Crow, repeating his actions from the previous night.

Kile also decided that Takarada should die the same way he killed Dylan the previous night, by the same weapon. So, Crow, Bluebolt, Awful, Chocolate, Omega and Kile got to work tying Takarada down on his bed, all the while he was screaming about how they should lynch Crow. Kile, having been the one who suggested this method of death, was allowed to carry out the gruesome act. Which he did. (For a more detailed description, see Dylan's death from the night 2 scene.)

Then the group continued with their work day, knowing that they had won a victory against the mafia who vowed vengeance. The war however, was not yet over...

Night 3

The group went to bed feeling good about the death of a mafian during the day but fearing retribution in the night. The bodyguards went to work. Crow originally intending to stay in his own room, knowing the detective had been there without him knowing, he didn't intend for anyone else to gain access and live. But then he changed his mind and decided to hide by Kile's room.

His counterpart bodyguard decided to protect Gard. Strangely, the detective picked the same target as the bodyguard again. The bodyguard again recognised him by his fedora and let him go about his work. Unlike the previous two nights though, the detective was not met by an empty room but instead could hear Gard asleep in his bed. It did not appear to be a deep sleep however and the detective could tell that Gard was very stressed. Unsurprising given how much he was being suspected by the others, especially considering that he was entirely innocent, a fact the detective was quickly able to determine. Having served the will of the people, the detective left, tipping his fedora in the direction of the nearby bodyguard, who had thought he was undetected, as he left.

The mafia, meanwhile, would not disregard Taka's last wishes and decided that it was time for Crow to die. The only weapon the selected killer would take would be a spoon. He made his way to Crow's room and entered, only to find it empty. He decided that he would just have to wait until the early hours of the morning for Crow to return. This was a risky strategy but it paid off as he lunged from his hiding place across the corridor from Crow's room as he was opening his door after an uneventful night guarding Kile. The attacker was able to push Crow over and he hit his head on his bedposts. The door was quickly shut and the mafian used Crow's dazed state to his advantage and began repeatedly smashing Crow's head into the bedpost until he was knocked out. Crow's last thoughts were of why he hadn't just stayed here and protected himself. The mafian then hit Crow's head as hard as possible into the hardest objects he could find, knowing that the noise would eventually wake others and that he had to get this done quickly. Evventually, Crow's head opened like a coconut and the attacker took out his spoon and proceeded to spoon out lumps of Crow's brain like ice cream. Once he was satisfied that sufficient brain was spread around the room, he stabbed the spoon through Crow's neck and left it there, as a final touch.

Day 3

The actions of the day were far less clear than those of the last. They didn't know who was a mafian and worse still, they had lost the guidance of Crow whose ghost wasn't contributing as much to the discussion as his corporeal form did. Kile, however, was offering his usual level of conversation trying to figure out who was likely to be mafia, as well as Awful who was also leading the discussion. Eventually, they came to a consensus, Gingerboyz must die. Grunt was meanwhile taking some drugs, presumably to try to control his night terrors and panic attacks. Fortunately for him, his guesses at what does is appropriate had been holding up, so far.

Many people voted for ghosts, and a ghost, that of Takarada, had the most votes, joint with Ginger, although the group weren't quite sure how to lynch a ghost. With Ginger, on the other hand, it was obvious how to lynch him. The group were beginning to become somewhat proficient with hangings now, or maybe it's just that they are no longer completely inept. Regardless, Ginger was soon standing on a chair, with a noose around his neck. The chair was kicked out from under him and shortly after, he was dead.

But who was he? This question was on the minds of everyone involved. The answer wasn't difficult to find: He was a standard villager. No special skills. No bloodlust. Nothing. Just another innocent person who'd died in this facility.

Night 4

The night drew in. The villagers were becoming increasingly worried about whether or not any of them would survive or if they would all succumb to the mafia. Even the bodyguard was anxious, this was his first night without the knowledge that he could have someone watching over him, protecting him, like he was protecting, or at least, trying to protect, the villagers. Regardless, he still got his things together and made his way to his target's room, checking that Brick was actually present, before hiding nearby and settling in for a long night of beiing unsettled, waiting for a mafian. A mafian who never came.

The detective, meanwhile, was again searching an occupied room. This time it was that of Grunt. He found many drugs and was constantly looking back at Grunt who was lying asleep in bed. It was not a restful sleep though and this put the detective on edge more than he had been at any point during this whole ordeal. Nevertheless, he got on with what he went there to do and later concluded that Grunt was innocent. At least of being a mafian, he was probably guilty of taking substances which were likely highly illegal throughout the Republic, not that those laws had any meaning here of course.

By the time the detective was done, the mafian had been back at his room for a while and was already asleep, knowing that he had cleanly eliminated another villager. He had done so by hiding nearby his target's room early on in the night, before they were even there. Once they arrived, he approached, silently. He hadn't bothered with attempting to cover his face to avoid being identified, he had made sure no one was around, and he didn't intend to give his victim a chance to even realise he was being attacked.

Sure enough, as Bluebolt opened his door, his attacker was behind him, and, with almost inhuman speed, had one arm around Bluebolt, holding his head with his hand and forcing his elbow down on his chest. He then proceeded to give a sharp blow to the back of his victim's neck, severing some vertebrae, causing immediate death. Bluebolt did indeed not even have a chance to realise that he was about to die. The mafian pushed the body into the room, onto the door, closing the door behind him, and proceeded to wrap it up in the bedsheets. Once his work was complete, he left, leaving no trace of his presence, apart from the dead body in the bedsheets.

This worried the villagers greatly because it meant that there was no longer anyone to oppose the mafia and their villainous killing spree.

Night 5

The bodyguards were dead. The detective was now the only one capable of making a difference against the mafia but now he had no choice but to investigate Awful to validate to the rest of the group that he really was the detective. So, he did. What he found was that Awful had been lying. But he was only a villager.

Upon his return to his own room, the detective turned on the light, closed the door and turned around to see the last face he ever would.

The mafian immediately started to strangle the detective, Omega, with his bare hands. There was little Omega could do to save himself as the life slowly left his body. He stared his attacker in the eyes with a hatred that one would normally associate with a sociopath but now, in his last moment, even the detective displayed such behaviour. It wasn't long until he could stare no more however. his attacker was not yet done. He put on a balaclava, in case someone saw him, and carried Omega's body to the lynching area. He lifted it onto the chair, tied the noose around his neck, and left him hanging there. So much for: "I don't want to be lynched." And with that, he was done.

The Rest of Day 5

With 3 mafia against 3 villagers, the mafia had won. Kile, Jana and Czartrak were met by the Alphas controlling the facility who had been very impressed with their performance, especially since they were still mostly human. They knew that they would be served well by these 3.

Brick, Grunt and Gard were left to their own devices, with very little food and water left in the facility, they would not last long.

Meanwhile, Star was still telling everyone to die.
