EDIT: I tried other sounds and the zapper~.wav doesn't seem to have any sound in-game.
EDIT2: It seems new pilot solves the issue. I can't say what's the problem though, must be plugins and save file incompatibility with the new release.
EDIT3: I think I should post details about the issue.
The issue is that a sound file that starts with letter "z" will not sound in-game. This happens when I'm using World Forge on a new game and also in my old save file with many plugins.
The issue has to do with the presence of a plugin in the plugin folder. If you have a plugin in the plugin folder, as stated above, sound files that begin with letter "z" will not have a sound in-game.
What interests me is how a simple name change (zapper.wav to sapper.wav, zapper in pug.txt to sapper) does not work on my end (while plugins are installed).
The bug works, presumably, on all sounds for me.
You might want to have a backup of the files you are editing, just in case anything happens.
-Have a plugin in plugins folder
-Rename a sound file to begin with z
-Edit corresponding data, this could be the sound in any weapon data you want to test with. I prefer using either the blaster or the beam laser so I can easily test in a new game.
-Test the game for the sound, and you have the bug.
-Remove the plugin and you have the sound again.
-Just make sure not to forget to reedit everything back when you're finished, or if you have a backup just use that.
EDIT: I tested for the engines sound and the same issue exists, so presumably, this is a bug for all sound files.
EDIT2: I have confirmed that it is not "z" but the last item in the sounds folder. The test will still work anyway, just make sure the sound you're testing is the last on the list.
It is indeed not "z" but the last sound file in the list.
The more accurate issue would be:
The last sound file in the sounds folder alphabetical list doesn't play in-game if there is a plugin in plugins folder.
Try copying one of the sounds and just naming it "zzz" and then see if the zapper plays; if yes, we've found the bug for sure.
Each plugin sounds folder is treated as a separate list.
The last sound in each list will not play in-game.
If a plugins sounds folder has only one sound that sound will not play in-game.
The zapper~.wav doesn't play because it is the last item in a different list.
Of course it will play if there is no plugin in the plugins folder, the bug is dependent on plugin presence.
EDIT: It seems the bug is already present in 0.9.2
