Game keeps crashing on startup

I played this game like a year..or two ago, got reasonably far in. Built up a fleet of like 40 ships. Just recently re-installed it yesterday. Played for a couple hours with no problems. Didn't change any of the game settings or anything or add any mods. Now today it will do nothing but crash over and over again on attempt to start it up. Anyone had this problem and was able to fix it? https://imgur.com/XtqsGd3

Interestingly, right after I posted this, I tried again and it started up. But before I posted this it crashed like 10 times in a row...Still would like to know if there is something I can do to avoid and fix this problem.

I don't think this is an error typical for ES, more like the whole OS derped; my absolutely wild guess would be that it was something related to the filesystem. If this error pops up again some time later, especially after a reboot, I would probably consider refreshing the OS, just in case.

Try validating the files and/or reinstaling the game. Failing that if you could tell us your system hardware and OS to help us track down crashes like this.

I'm having the same issue, haven't played in like a year, decided to try it again, and it just crashes. Tried validating files, tried reinstalling.

Debian 9, using nvidia drivers 410

Seems to work if I install it from the repo. Only crashes in steam.

It's quite possable that whatever has caused your crash has been fixed in the last year and a half. That would explain what the repo works but steam doesn't.

When this happened to me it was only when I clicked the "Load Game" button after pressing "Load/Save". I fixed it by changing the "recent.txt" file in the endless sky folder to another one of my saves. Then everything went back to normal.
