Endless Sky

Endless Sky

No mouse cursor in fullscreen
If I switch to fullscreen, the mouse cursor disappears. It is fine in windowed mode (but that's less than ideal) I'm using Nvidia GTX 780 on Windows 10. This is a problem I've seen in other games, such as Sword With Sauce, and I think it might be related to the SDL API.

If it is to do with the SDL API I expect there's nothing that ES can do about it but I'm not really versed in such things so I can't do more than speculate.
Why is windowed mode less than ideal for you though, out of interest?
Also, there is a feature where the cursor is hidden after 10 seconds of inactivity while flying in space. Could it be that?
Edit: that last thing may not be implemented in the Steam release though.

I just don't like windowed mode and borderless window hacks screw with the UI in this game for some reason.
No, it's not the autohide - the cursor doesn't show up anywhere at all.
As for SDL, it's not all software using SDL that has this problem, but all software that has this problem is using SDL. So, it's fixable. My research turns up this https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2016-01/msg04749.html which suggests "suppress hardware cursor implementation".

I see no problem here. I run an Nvidia gtx970m. I use the default windows pointer, and have snap-to dialog disabled. Cursor dissappears and reappears in flight as it should.

First, does the cursor reappear and work if you enter fullscreen mode and then restart endless sky?

And second, default checklist: Are you using any mouse software? Is your graphics driver up to date? Is endless sky properly using your dedicated card? Is windows up to date?

All the info you can give us will help us find a solution for you.

Personally, I prefer windowed so I can easily pester the discussion boards.

You helped me solve it! I looked at the mouse settings in windows to see if snap to dialogue was enabled. It wasn't... but pointer shadow and pointer trails were. So I disabled those to see if it made a difference... and it did!
Thanks. :)

Good to know. Fyi, I have shadows on so it was probably trails. Cheers and happy skying mate.
