(Free worlds mission) Capturing the surveillance drone

How exactly do you do it and get away with it. Every time I've found a system that has drones flitting around, there are dozens of republic and navy ships floating around or passing throgh. Each time I make for a drone, the navy just opens fire on me and refuses to accept surrender.

I tried waiting until a pirate raid, hoping that just maybe I could pull off a plausable stray shot and the republic wouldn't notice, but the second I fired, the raiders and republic just called a truce and ganged up on my ships.

Is there a way to disable the ship without being noticed?

Go far away from the spawn the drones will follow you

The Republic will "cool off" if you leave the system after attacking a drone. It's the same as if you accidentally damage a merchant ship - everyone gets mad at you for a day, but if no actual people were hurt (and in this case, they can't be, since drones have no crew) it has no permanent effect on your reputation.

I see lots of drones when they are fighting pirates and sometimes near space stations just flying around.

find a drone far enough away from the other ships so that you can disable it and board it, once youve taken the survelience system just jump to another system and the republic wont be mad anymore because you didnt attack a manned vessel

Do you have to be on the mission or can you just filch one in passing and keep it in storage until needed?

Dude.
1. Find a place in the Dirt Belt where there is no astoids.
2. Use Meteor missles, 2 shots, make sure u hit it.
3. Jump away, while still target on that drone.
4. Jump back, the drone is still disabled and no one is mad.

When boarding a disabled drone, how on earth to you receive the servelience system? Should there be a button to press aside of B, should there be a notification or does it happen automatically, as you are boarding the drone and the game doesn't let you know that it happened?

When boarding a disabled drone, how on earth to you receive the servelience system? Should there be a button to press aside of B, should there be a notification or does it happen automatically, as you are boarding the drone and the game doesn't let you know that it happened?

you need to have some cargo space free. When you board the drone, there will be a list of components in the left hand box - thrusters, steering, power source, etc. There should also be something marked as survelience equipment or similar. That's the system you need to take.

I'm afraid this list isn't showing up for me, and my cargo space is completly empty. Is there something I am missing?

can you provide a screenshot of what it looks like when you board the drone? That would help a lot in figuring out what happened

Strange. How badly did you damamge the drone prior to boarding it?
