Wow... 8? Seems like overkill, but I agree in principle. Well worth it. Use non 'war' ships to entice more attacks, tank them with those regenerators and clean house.
Just for fun I made a 'Tank' out of a Waterbeetle and setup 2 captured furies. I just sit there running 3 or 4 of the 'green ones' and watch as my furies disable all the sparrows, hawks and furies, then capture and sell. No muss, no fuss, nothing but cash. Once in a while there's a death benefit, make sure and bring laser rifles and grenades and keep your crew numbers at max.
I run 3 to 4 in shieldbeetles for ridiculous and tasty blend of firepower and tankishness. I'm still in the simpler parts of the game, though. Who knows... I keep hearing about Pugs and Koraths and Quargs... maybe I'll see one someday. Maybe it won't be the best strategy in the long haul, but it's fine now.
