Outfit efficiency data
As I was sitting, trying to decide which outfits to gear my ships up with, I decided to just crunch the numbers myself. I came up with a spreadsheet in Google Docs, using values harvested from the game's raw data, that dissects the various efficiencies of the three main ship systems: Energy, Steering, and Thrusters.

I didn't do anything with weapons because a lot of what makes weapons good or bad is subjective (preferring beams over projectiles because they're better for disabling, for example), or shield generators / cooling systems because there's very little complexity to those.

Here's the link to the spreadsheet:

Few things to keep in mind while looking at this:
Efficiency values are always Resource Produced / Resource Consumed; therefore, higher is always better.

The values were taken directly from game files. Many of the values are not the same in the files as in-game; I converted them to their in-game values (The ones that needed to be modified had a simple multiplier, most often x60).

Some slang or abbeviated names for outfits were used. They should be pretty easy to follow.

The last item in each category is the Quarg outfit. They're kinda rediculously unbalanced. I decided to ignore them in my personal analysis.

A couple things I noticed:
If you can get them, pug engines are nearly a strict upgrade over plasma engines, with dramatically increased efficiencies across the board. However, compared to atomic engines, pug drives are still less mass-efficient. However, the pug thrusters fare a bit better than pug steering when compared to similarly-massed atomic engines.

Fusion Reactors have the 3rd best mass efficiency AND the 3rd best heat efficiency. The two reactors that are more mass efficient are far less heat efficient and vice versa. The 2nd most heat efficient (nucleovoltaic) is entirely out of the running for mass efficiency, and the 2nd most mass efficient (Armageddon) is nearly completely outshone by the 1st most mass efficient (Korath Capital), making Fusion Reactors basically the second best in both categories.
