i decided with falcon
Yeah, the Bactrian is the way to go for heavy duty. The Falcon is more like a balanced destroyer, and the Leviathan is pretty big on speed, but the Bactrian is a category unto itself. 6 turret hardpoints, 4 gun hardpoints, 3 fighter bays, 700 fuel capacity, a lot of cargo space, which means room for goods or for mass extensions, and the heaviest shielding and armor of any Human starship. It's pretty slow to start and honestly, not that great until you spend lots on it. I typically spend about 6 million for each Bactrian in my fleet to get them kitted, and a comparable sum for torpedoes and crew payments (my flagships are always Bactrians, don't like Shield Beetles due to lack of space for outfits). Falcon is faster by default, though, and it's cheaper too, so I digress.
How can you expand engine space to allow for both?
Maybe up the stats of Navy Carrier in terms of crew/cargo capactiy, and then it can be another Super-Heavy category, because it already outclasses Navy Cruiser despite both being Heavy Warships.
Bactrians are just too OP for their price tags - with huge cargo and crew space they are versatile as warships, trade ships, boarding ships, and can carry fighters to boot. It's an awesome end game ship but I think it should be so expensive as to be worth several other heavy warships, so a player chooses to prioritize their fleet composition rather than just use Bactrians.
Later, when more faction quest lines are done, I feel Bactrian shouldn't be buyable from the start, but instead would be an awesome unlockable ship as part of the Syndicate storyline, because it's versatility and fitness for money-making while still being a powerful warships fits great with the Syndicate theme.
Bactrians and Mules both, in their class, are simply the correct answer. (And that's a bad thing.)
