How do you get a navy license to purchase warships

Not sure you need one. I bought two heavy warships with no problem and nobody has hassled me about them.

it wouldnt let me purchase a warship it said i rrequired a navy license

I went to Achemar which was the first system I could find whose Shipyard sold the Protector (Heavy Warship). I don't have a Navy Licence, but it let me buy two of the Protectors. So far nobody in the game has objected. I've been scanned by Navy ships several times.

thats odd in game it said you can get it from a mission but i dont know what mission that could be

I haven't done any of the missions beyond the initial ones. Just been working on building up my fleet and bank account so I'll be a bit safer for exploring and doing other missions.

Go to outfitting, all the way at the bottom you'll see a "Pilot's license" that you can purchase. Not sure if it matters which type of government the system is in.

Right now there's no way to join the Navy, so the only way to get one of their ships is by capturing it.

Is there a way to add a Navy and Carrier/Cruiser license to the savegame.txt right now or no and if so, do you mind describing how?

with the new mod we probably can get it I am working on a Navy quest now.

i think he was talking about ships like the gunboat and rainmaker. buying a protector or a levethian (duno about spelling) isnt a problem. but you cant purchase light warships. the easiest was to get them is to fly to an unexplored system and wait. (make shure you have a good flagship) and wait for one or 2 to come along. then beat them within an inch of their life and take their ship. (p.s. a behemoth is a great make do flag ship. you can make it amazing if you remove some of the cargo space. then immediatly get a bacatrain. buy a levethian as a escort not as a flagship.) happy flying!

Or, you can edit your save file, which is cheating, but it's easier.

I tried capturing a Carrier with a bacatrain and my fleet.......6 fire birds 1 cruiser 2 frigates 2 gunboats 44 behemoths 4 hawks....i loaded my bacatrain with crew....like fully loaded....even had nerve gas grenades...you just don't get a carrier...nothing has enough crew space to out gun them hand to hand.....

Don't bother with the carrier. a Bactrian, even with few upgrades is faster, more manuverable, and perfectly adaequate for anything you would be doing. capping a carrier only gets you crew fines and long hyperspace wait times.

I captured 3 carriers, six korath raiders, and a quarg wardragon with my kestral. The trick is, biodefenses. Defend, attack attack attack, defend. You'll want max rifles, grenades, and gas too.
