Reputation Alteration and Faction Chart(Minor Spoilers)
Was curious, and didn’t find this sort of chart anywhere in the forums or the wiki, so decided to make it for myself, but since this is a nice open game, figured I’d share it as well. As the title says, this is a list of factions in the game, with some general descriptions of them, as well as who gains and loses rep based off who you blow up in ship combat. Of course, that does mean there’s going to be some spoilers in this, but it should make a handy guide for those who want to make the galaxy love them.

One thing to note is that there are story events and missions from the job board that affect Reputation as well, so keep in mind if a faction becomes suddenly hostile, it’s because of that. Oh, and as a further note, Reputation gain/loss is affected by the crew size of the ships you destroy, so bigger ships means more rep change.

Faction Name
Brief Desc
Reputation Values altered by destruction of Faction Vessels

Author
An odd faction consisting of a single Kestrel ship that will pop up from time to time. Sadly, haven’t encountered him except once, so I have no idea who would be affected by his/her destruction.
N/A

Bad Trip
I have no idea who this is, but they always have a -1000 Reputation that I’ve seen, so I’m going to assume their something we’re going to meet in a later update, or possibly just something left in from an earlier build. If anyone has any info, please feel free to add it.
N/A

Bounty
A special class to which belongs all Bounty Mission targets. It starts at -1000 Reputation, meaning it starts out hostile, and as far as I can tell, there’s no way to make it higher without altering your save file.
(Bounty -)

Bounty Hunter
Again, like Bad Trip, I have no idea. I have never encountered this group, though I would guess, in a later build, they’re going to come after you if you go too far into the negative with one of the larger factions. As such, no info on these right now.
N/A

Deep
This is the group of worlds in the Upper Left section of the current galactic map. They’re a few worlds that are somewhat cut off from the rest, and are mostly named after Nordic Legends and the Wagner Ring Cycle. Mostly, they’re high tech, powerful ships, so don’t go messing with them if you don’t have to.
(Deep -)

Derelict
A special class, of which only one example exists as far as I know. In this case, the Asteroid used to make Rand more habitable is currently listed as this Faction, though as it has no weapons, its reputation matters little, and with no crew, I can’t see if it affecting any reputation with anyone, though it does break the quest if you go about destroying it.
N/A

Free Worlds
The Deep South of space...no seriously they’re the planets in the south western section of the galaxy, and as of Build 8.11 represent the largest finished storyline in the game. Their ships are pretty standard overall, with a few heavy hitters added to their ranks as you advance their story.
(Free Worlds -), (Pirates +)

Hai
The Hai are a race you can run into by going to the Ultima Thule system and entering the wormhole there. They have a sort of mini-campaign you can do, mixing in them, the Hai(Unfettered), and the Wanderer factions as a micro story that as of build 8.11 doesn’t really go anywhere. Mind, they and the Wanderer have the best purchasable ships and outfits, so they’re a good place to visit for end game gear.
(Hai -), (Hai(Unfettered) +)

Hai(Unfettered)
The ‘evil’ version of the Hai. Notice the ‘ around the word evil? That’s because as of now there’s not a lot to go on save they’re hostile at the start, and really, that might be due to other circumstances. There is a story even where you can sell them Jump Drives(Stolen from either the Korath or the Quarg) to make them non-hostile. For location, they’re north of the Hai, inhabiting three systems above them.
(Hai +), (Hai(Unfettered) -)

Independent
As with Bad Trip and Bounty Hunter, I don’t remember running into any of these, so just like those two, no information.
N/A

Korath
The aliens that, as of now(Build 8.11) are a footnote, and important towards the end only in that the Syndicate has been stealing from them, as the Korath attack the Syndicate, meaning everyone is at fault there. Not nice people, and hard to talk to, but you can land on one of their worlds and get a brief snippet of their culture. They’re a good way of making Pirates like you, if you want that sort of thing.
(Korath -), (Merchant +), (Pirate +), (Syndicate +)

Merchant
Ah, the humble Merchants. Technically they’re the ones you start out as, and you’ll run into them just about anywhere. They tend to be non-hostile towards you, if you haven’t been a jerk/murder to them first. Still, they tend to be easy pickings on their own, when no defenders are around, but aggroing them will also aggro the Navy, Free Worlds, and Militia, and possibly others, just so you know.
(Free Worlds -), (Merchant -), (Militia -), (Navy(Oathkeeper) -), (Navy Intelligence +), (Pirate +), (Pug -), (Quarg -), (Republic -), (Syndicate -), (Syndicate(Extremist) +)

Militia
Local Militia defenders. Somehow these are different from the main groups, and appear, as far as I know, only around human worlds. As they are their own separate faction, you can be on good terms with the owners of the planet, and still somehow be against these guys. Not that it matters much, as they tend to field the lesser ships of the four human factions, and thus, once you’ve got a fleet powerful enough to take on the main story, you’re more than a match for these guys.
(Militia -)

Navy(Oathkeeper)
A special branch of the Navy, spawned by events in the storyline, and thus, only available after those events are passed. They do pop up as spawning Navy units, defending the northern systems of the Republic, but seem to be a different group than the normal Navy.
(Navy(Oathkeeper) -)

Navy Intelligence
Only one ship in this group that I know of, and it’s added to your fleet for a short time in the current storyline. Not enough there to work with to find out what reputation changes it would cause, as the ship is too small to have a real effect on the numbers.
N/A

Neutral
Not sure, but I think anything not covered by any particular faction is dumped here, possibly as a failsafe for the game’s code. Several planets near the southern border of the current map, as well as the planet of New Tibet where many things happen, are listed as belonging to this faction after story events.
N/a

Parrot
As with the Bad Trip, Bounty Hunter, and Independent above, no info available, sorry.
N/A

Pirate
The marauding bands of savages that loot and plunder the galaxy. You’ll find their systems ast the edges of the map, and they’re the only ones in human space that are hostile from the start. They tend to field fleets with a mixture of the common ships of the area the planet is in, as well as a few special Pirate only ships, and tend to always hate you, unless you destroy a lot of people they don’t like.
(Free World +), (Militia +), (Navy +), (Navy(Oathkeeper) +), (Pirate -), (Syndicate +)

Pug
Storyline based Aliens who live in the Pug system that is initially accessible only with a jump drive, despite being in nearly the center of the current map. Right now, they seem to be a stand in for the mentioned in whispers Drak race, and are mostly just hypocritical jerks in my opinion. Still, play the Free Worlds campaign to encounter them normally.
(Hai(Unfettered) +), (Pug -)

Quarg
They control a small triangle of systems on the bottom right corner of the map, as well as one in Hai space with a ring world in it. They have high opinions of themselves, and won’t interfere in the affairs of other races. Mind, they have the best stuff, and while difficult, it is possible to steal it for yourself, though I don’t think you can take their ships as yet. As a note, adding their ships to the sales menu through modding shows how powerful they are, as their ships are over 100 Mil a piece. As a side note, if you make these guys mad, you can’t ever land on their planets again, as there’s no way to raise your rep with them, and they’re not bribable. Not too big a problem, as there’s literally only a single mission that takes you to one of their planets, and it’s an optional ‘learn more backstory’ mission at the end of the current main story.
(Quarg -)

Republic
This is the normal Navy, and that’s really all there is to say about that. They control the largest section of the map, the center and much of the surrounding, including almost all of the tutorial area you’ll adventure through if you follow the old man on New Boston(Starting planet). They’re honorable soldiers, being led by a corrupt government.
(Republic -), (Syndicate +)

Syndicate
The normal every day Mega Corp that supplies so much of the galaxy/humanity that it is technically its own government. They’re...complicated, and I don’t want to spoil too much for those playing the story. Suffice it to say, they show up about mid game, when they steal the show.
(Syndicate -), (Syndicate(Extremist) +)

Syndicate(Extremist)
Syndicate people who have taken a dark path, and follow some very bad people. Talented people, some might even call them superior people, but still, bad in the moral sense. You only encounter them near the end of the current story, where they replace a small group of pirates for a time.
(Syndicate +), (Syndicate(Extremist) -)

Test Dummy
A few ships in missions where you have to either test your strength(Kestrel), or test new weapons(Free Worlds Weapons Tech) are in this particular group. Nothing special, mind, other than the Kestrel. They’re mostly there for you to beat them up, and coming into the fights with ships able to take on the main story should mean you can take them down easy, as they’re always single targets.
N/A

Wanderer
The guys added in the last expansion of the story. They’re found above the Hai(Unfettered), which is only accessible with a jump drive, and they’re basically scavengers of a sort, but nice enough ones, when you’re not shooting at them. They currently have some of the best purchasable stuff, though you have to do a mini-campaign of sorts to get on their good side.

Bad Trip is the drugs faction that attacks you when you take the drugs from a drug run mission. Bounty Hunters are for the pleasure cruise jobs I think. Deep faction was used for that archeology mission.

And Parrot is Captain Pester, who like the author's ship will appear in any system.

Captain Pester flies a Quarg Wardragon, and pretty much tells you that Endless Sky is free and open-source.

He's based off Captain Hector from EV Nova.
toilethinges Feb 2, 2016 @ 12:55pm
During the storyline, the system Men, Graffias, and (I think) Antares become Independent, and Tarazed and it's surroundings are Neutral once you go into the storyline a bit.

Also, on Pug lore: The Pug are a hivemind race, possibly standing above the Drak in technological advancement (as they have artificial wormholes, whereas the Drak don't,) and alter the power/type of their weapons and ships to suit the enemy they fight. When they fight, if they do, it is generally for a good cause (stopping the civil war.)

Deep vessels encountered right where you said my friend...and the only effect of their destruction is the lowering of your rep with them, as far as I can tell. Sad, was hoping to make pirates like me more or something. This still means the Quarg and Wanderer, once made angry, are unable to be made happy again by your actions.

Still have not encountered Bad Trip, though I tend to go straight for the world I'm to go to, and ignore the fights along the way, so maybe I am just not seeing them. As for Independent, I remembered those systems changing, but going there I encountered while the systems are listed as such found the ships patrolling were either militia or republic. Still no Parrot, and I have been keeping an eye out for him.

Also, interesting Pug lore. I still think they're jerks, though where did you find this info? Specifically the tech stuff, as I kept getting the impression, especially considering what the Quarg will tell you, that the Drak are above them.

The Pugs are jerks, but probably Jerks with good intentions. The Quarg tell you that they have technology "not even the drak possess", which is able to warp time and space - or break a Quarg Ringworld. The Pug are, however, obsessed with fair-play, and don't use the full extend of their power unless it's absolutely neccessary.

Parrot (Cptn. Pester) is an unique ship, a modified Quarg Wardragon. It can pop up anywhere, but is entirely random.

"Bad Trip" are, as far as I know, Hallucination ships that appear if you do drug-running and eat the drugs yourself.

Mate the pug actually did what they were supposed to do bring peace to the galaxy. And with one bactrian i completed the Free worlds campaign
Laplant Feb 10, 2016 @ 1:40pm
i did however farm the quarg intensly to do so.
Im trying to get back on good terms with them
but it's harder than it looks
