How to Hack(Exploit actually) Endless Sky Without using cursed save data!
Having money troubles?
Life is hard as an independent merchant. I have been there it makes the game hard to actually get into. The banks morgtage looms over most if not all of your profit.
This guide entails how to become a private citizen without searching endlessly for your saves and skipping the hours of paying of the bank's morgtage.

How? Endless sky is Open Source meaning most of the data is not incripted and is easy to alter to your fittings.

So you will need to go to your library. (Noob alert!!! Close the game before you begin)

Right-click Endless sky Click on properties.
Local files-Browse local files
This brings you to the File Storage of Endless Sky on your computer

You will need to click on Data Bringing you to a folder destination Scroll until you see Start open the file and you should see this

The formatting won't be preserved if people copy/paste that. It'll likely break their start. Changes should be made in plugins as well, as any direct modifications to the base game files will be overwritten next update.

Yes but when the update occurs and it is overwritten. Any pilot you have already done this with will not affect them.

Thank you for your feedback.

If you use a proper editor, formatting will be fine. Notepad++, for example. Of course, if you're using a proper editor, the save data is just as easily altered.

Im hoping that you found this helpful, this is one of my first guides for the game.

Na man, copying that exact text up there and pasting it into notepad++ does not work. It's unformatted in that form, and the last line should be several lines besides. It will ruin the properly formatted start.txt. Trying to keep people from breaking their start here.

A matter of fact is that i updated the guide.

Update Do Not Copy and paste, rather erase the numerical numbers and morgtage and if you want a navy liscense add a ( set "license: Navy")

So further statements that are not helpful, and are just for arguments sake are not needed or asked for by myself or anyone else.

And Also if it does "Ruin" anyone's game they can go into the same properties and click on "Restore Integrety Of Game Cache". Thank you, for your feedback once again however, it is no longer nescecarry.

I should leave it be, I say to myself, but that passive aggressive attitude got to me I suppose. I'm only human after all.

Yea bud, I saw that you updated the "guide", I wasn't replying to you in any way, shape, or form. I was simply correcting the misstatement that copying unformatted text would somehow turn it into formatted text depending on the editor. And you've misunderstood, I wasn't giving feedback to help your "guide", I was keeping anyone unfortunate enough to follow it from breaking their start.txt file. So to you, I was likely not helpful in the slightest, but you were not my target audience ;)

cute, but now it is done. And I thank you as I have already done. Have you tried it yet? Just wondering.

Yes, he didn't use

around the text in his post, so it won't preserve formatting in his post, rendering the actual post useless for copy/paste.

I was more referring to his comment about "cursed save data", which is only 'cursed' if you haven't read any of the dozens of guides on this forum about saying not to edit the Endless Sky files in MS Notepad; including at least three detailing this exact 'Hack' (only with the proper formatting, so copy/paste does work).

Gotcha man. Apologies for any misunderstanding.

No sorry, I don't use any mods but the one I'm working on. Your method will work just fine as long as they just edit the relevant fields though. I do keep a modified version of the dev's cheater plugin around when I need to do some quick and dirty testing. Don't have a link handy, but it's either on the wiki or the google group somewhere. I also keep a copy of shields-up around, to see what those guys are up to.

Frankly, I cannot imagine why anyone would have any interest in this guide. If you want to jump straight to end game content, just edit your save file and give yourself all the money you want and any ships you want (such as Quarg ships) directly. Of course, there is then nothing to do, so the whole thing seems pretty pointless.

Seems to me that you are looking for pointless argument and I will not gratify you in that. But thanks for taking the time to say how pointless this guide is, and know that the feeling is quite mutual about comments like these. Spare me the lecture that I might have given you about how I couldn't find the saves and others could'nt as well.
I appologize if you concur that I am cross in stating my opinion.
