Thoughts on this Bactrian build?
Firstly, I just want to say a big thank you to all the community members, contributors and creators of this game. I grew up playing the Escape Velocitys from Macworld CD Roms until I finally convinced my dad to register, so this takes me back. I keep discovering new aspects of this game, so it's really a joy to play.

Now, onto my question... I wanted to ask everyone here what they thought of my Bactrian build? I 'm not a huge fan of owning a fleet, so I'm trying to make this a self-sustaining battleship. I feel like playing with the alien race's ships is somewhat cheating, though, so I tried to simply outfit my ship to be as powerful of a human ship as possible.

Turrets:

2 Point Defense Turrets
4 Bombardment Turrets

Shielding:

Dark Storm Shielding

Energy:

Large Battery Module x2
Large Reactor Module

Cooling:

Large Heat Shunt

Engines:

Bufaer Atomic Steering
Buffaer Atomic Thruster

Power:

Systems Core (Large)


So far, the only issues I have with it are that it overheats in a prolonged fight. Other than that, it's tanky as hell and has decent firepower. However, I wonder if I need longer range weapons and need to dump some of my shielding because of the heat. It's fun as hell to outfit.

Alternatively, I could try the Kestrel... but it feels like the Bactrian has more options.

If you can, use the Wanderer power generators, particularly the Blue Sun Reactor. It is better than most other generators (though less space efficient than the Large Reactor Module, it is more heat efficient). This may help your heating issues, but is also much larger. It also stores almost exactly the same amount of energy as two Large Battery Modules, so that may offset the extra space requirements of the Blue Sun Reactor enough to be worth it.

Due to the larger energy generation, however, you may be able to get away with installing active cooling to get more cooling out of less space. Since you are already using Coalition parts, you might consider the Coalition's Cooling Module which has a cooling to mass ratio of 252 compared to the Large Heat Shunt's 150. I don't have access to Bactrians on my current save, so I can't test if it would work well.

If you go to the Mods section of the Discussions tab, then go to the Learning To Mod topic, there are spreadsheets of every outfit and ship in the game that you can use to determine what outfits are the best for you.

With this, you can provide good amount of heat sinks, have capable speed of 298 and 95/125 turning, while able to dispatch tier 1 vessels at ease. It doesn't touch the cargo space at all so you can enjoy the Bactrian's immense cargo space as well.

I have 5 free outfit space but I have no idea what to add.
