Pretty obvious that it's about the Sheragi. They died out in when they first became space - faring, and the Archons don't want to leave that space unihnhabited, so they give it to humans, who then ruin it by fighting each other. I can't find a specific war that might be being refering to, but the rim was populated by 2520 on the timeline, so it may be the turf or alpha wars.
Also could be that multiple species live in former Sheragi terriotory. Sheragi are just one dragon in the song, but there are multiple friends. However, there's definetly has not been a large war between humans and any other species (unless you count alphas). I think it's more likely that it's refering to human civil wars.
That name seems out of place for the region it is in...
Also I'm saying from within the Endless Sky
Let alone make a large enough team to work on reverse engineering a jump drive.
Consider the chain of events: They interfered with our civil war. We got a jump drive from the Korath and came to investigate. We got more jump drives and the Pug dissappear. We explore and find the Wanderers. We teach the Wanderers war to combat the Hai. The Pug open the Eye so that the Wanderers may make war on the Mereti/Sestor. An Alpha driven Sestor war fleet escapes through the eye and devastates Wanderer space. Said fleet escapes into Human space. We retaliate by ripping one of our own worlds in half, then we give the Exiles an unlimited new fleet.
We've become just like the early Korath. I'm wondering where the Korath got their jump drives? For that matter, where did the Alphas? What happened to devolve the Korath Empire? What new region of space, full of dead worlds will the Wanderers inherit in ten thousand years? I think these answers are obvious.
Willing to bet the alphas werent counted on by the pug though... their specific intent seems to have been teach the wanderers how to fight again, set them loose on the kor automa, and clean up kor space.
Alphas may be humanity's worst contribution to the galaxy ever. What if the Drak are protecting Alphas similar to the way they have Archons guarding the Kor nano-swarms?
Also, they did stop Humans from nuking themselves into oblivion...
But then there is always that nagging question of how much truth is there to what the unfettered say happened to the Hai in the distant past... What if... what if... the Pug ARE the Drak, and just play both sides of the same coin as a guise?
If we had nuked ourselves and ended human civilization, this chain of events would never come to pass, and the Wanderers would have been totally unprepared for what lay on the other side of the Eye...
And that point asks another question, for how many 'generations' has this cycle of destruction and rebirth gone on? Were the Quarg telling the truth about the "First Born" race being extinct?
You know, in 20k+ years after the Wanderers are done fixing it?
