Tributes work weirdly.
This is just some random things I find weird about planets giving you tribute.

1. Some of them have ridiculously low amounts they can pay you. They're an entire planet that get tons of income from both merchants and their citizens and can only spare maybe 500 credits a day? With my fleet I could make 3 million in 1 day. From what I've heard, the most tribute a planet can pay is around 6000.

2. Even if you have an overwhelming force, they still send out their tiny fleet against your 20 kestrels. Won't it be realistic if they just surrendered if you had a force far bigger than theirs?

3. After conquering planets, the other planets still just let you stroll in like you didn't just take over one of their neighboring planets. That's like your neighbor getting robbed, and you see the robber, but still let him in your house if he wants.

4. Pirate planets when conquered still spawn pirates that attack you. I think the random pirates in other systems should, but not the ones from a planet whos army you literally just completely wiped out.

5. Why do you need battle level to demand tribute from some planets? Can't it just have a requirement for the amount of firepower I need, for example, a warship like the Shield Beetle would have 100, and a sparrow would have 4 or something. I don't know the specifics, but it can possibly work like that. If I had a battle level of 1, and 50 Beetles, I still couldn't intimidate some planets. Even if someone you've never heard of was threatening you with a huge fleet, you would take it seriously.

Anyway, thanks for reading. I'm not saying the tribute system is are bad, but it feels really unnatural when these things happen.

1, 2, and 5: The dev has stated that demanding tribute is just meant to be a mini game for people with nothing more to do, and isn't suppose to be realistic or give any real income.

3: That's just a quirk with how reputation works. If your reputation is high enough, you need to kill a lot of that certain government before they start hating you on sight.

4: Why's that? Pirates gonna pirate, man. I don't find them taking kindly to a guy/gal that just wiped out their defense fleet.

1. Earth pays 10000 credits per day. Demand tribute from the whole of human space, and you can get up to 150000 credits per day.
2. The whole point of tributes is to give you something to waste time once you've developed an unstoppable fleet.
3. You're not quite conquering planets, you're just forcing them to give you monies. And to let you land. If you were conquering them, they would prevent hostile ships from landing on them and stuff.
4. System fleets are not tied to planet tribute. Besides, tribute is from the planetary government, not necessarily individual private pilots.
5. No justification from Michael on this that I have seen, but I will say that it's for telling people that your fleet actually knows how to fight and that you have real combat experience. Also, it forces you to waste moar time, as in #2~

Darn, Derpy ninja'd me.

The way I see it, conquering planets could be a really awesome update to the game, but it would also be a big one. You could wage large scale wars vs a faction, sending ships from one planet to another for an off screen battle, and getting economy from every planet you conquer.

Edit: I mean conquering, not only beating the fleet and getting tribute. You OWN the planet.

If this were Github, I think Michael would put a 1.0.0 tag on it :steammocking:

i dont see demanding tribute ever becoming a major part of the game. its story driven, and tribute is just meant to be a waste of time to entertain yourself.

Hence why you cant currently tribute most alien worlds.

While that's true, it does not preclude the tribute function from being improved. Other things have a higher priority, but work can easily be done by the community to make small, calculated improvements to the system that work with how the game is moving forward.

Don't give up on improving tributes.

You are free to work on it yourself and submit it to MZ for him to hit merge. I'm not trying to discourage anyone, don't get me wrong. I would be willing to help and collaborate on it, if someone else was going to do all the actual work.

Collaborating means more than posting smiley faces and inspirational music every other post.

Ouch.

Since when do I post smily faces and inspirational music every other post? I think you are confusing me with someone else. I actually do collaborate with people, i am currently working with Fallen, have helped the face, have given my input on the super duper top secret storyline local was working on (Its a secret so I'm not saying ♥♥♥♥ beyond that.) - although that last one would not be collaboration. Sinsling and I came up with the star queen rebalance... Ya know, stuff like that.

That's not counting the newbies I am helping with their mods.

So yea I am willing to actually collaborate, KevyCakes. Stop hurting my feelings yo.

You're right, it was unfounded. But it made me giggle, so I posted it anyway. Can't win 'em all.
