Endless Sky

Endless Sky

How do you properly set-up the map editor?
The documentation is nonextant. When I launch the map editor, there's no graphics whatsoever, and system view is full of lines that rotate around one another, but no objects at the ends of those lines.

I've extracted endless-sky-editor-win64-0.7.10 to steamapps/common/endless sky/endless-sky-editor-win64-0.7.10, and I've extracted the contents of endless-sky-editor0.7.10.0.zip to that folder, both directly (so there is a subfolder with that name) and pulling the contents out.

Step 1: Download
Step 2: create a new plugin folder, be sure it includes a data and images folder
Step 3 (dirty): copy the existing maps.txt and images into the plugin, in the respective folders
Step 3 (clean): create a new maps.txt, a new galaxy within that maps.txt, and upload copy the photo you want to be your background into its expected location

Step 4: open endless sky editor
Step 5: File > Open > the maps.txt you want

Step 6: edit your map.

Should be noted that, your first few times practicing with the endless sky editor, you should use the dirty version of step 3. The clean version is for custom assets and release mods.

Ah! Thank you - THERE was my problem. I was using the images folder from the high DPI mod.

Also, for your information, the map editor is no longer supported (being worked on), so as systems get more complex, the map editor will still spit out the same as before. Right now, minables are the only ones that aren't included, so you, will have to add, those by hand.

I was just trying to make a new human planet, so...

It doesn't seem to have worked, though. Or maybe edits to the map.txt don't take effect in an existing game, and you need to either start a new one and/or copy the new stuff from map.txt to the save file?

Either way, I think I bollocksed something up royally, since the descriptions for all the outfits are showing twice. Does having a new outfits.txt in a plugins file conflict with the stock plugins file?

it can in very rare events,

Generally speaking, as long as you are opening up the files and checking them in notepad++ you should be fine.

you should also search the Google Group[groups.google.com] with "map" or "map editor" terms - there are some command line techniques described that would allow you to start working with the existing map.txt, and then remove all of the already implemented content when you're finished creating your systems.
