Question: can you move cargo to an escort while in space

I'm doing some pirate hunting, and I wanted to know if I could bring an escort to help me carry the loot it.

If you tell the escort to gather near you and wait for it to be directly under you, you can dump the cargo of your ship (hit I to open the player menu, and navigate to your ship, then hit "Dump Cargo" at the bottom), and the escort will pick it up if it has enough cargo space available. For reliability I'd suggest bringing multiple escorts, but this isn't entirely necessary.

Please be careful, because if you end up dumping it and missing your ship, you have scant few moment to retrieve it.

I'm not sure if this applies to other versions, but in 0.9.14 there's a cost limit on dumped cargo that can be salvaged. I believe anything worth more than a million credits can't be picked up again. Mostly applies to high end power reactors like Triple Plasma Cores.

Worth keeping in mind that cargo shuffles when you land on uninhabited planets, and any shield/hull regen you have will replenish in full. So if you are farming in korath space you can land on the various uninhabited space there and your cargo will auto reshuffle to your escorts.
