Ambushed by Bounty Hunters
Howdy, I had a fleet of nine Bacties and made a good living from pirate bounties and caps. Then one fine day I was ambushed by bounty hunters...a lot of them. I couldn't get to any other planet before going to this one where they were always waiting and always destroyed me.

So here's how I dealt with it.

1) When arriving at the ambushed system, hit the 'G' button to group fleet to surround you and start shooting. Make a run for the closest planet to land. I'm not saying that you may go unscathed by this. You can redo this from last save point until you are satisfied with your result with minimal loss.

2) Hold the Tab key down before hitting the depart button so you come out shooting. Once you click depart, immediately hit the G button to group your fleet. You and fleet should all be shooting at enemies. Wait one to two seconds and hit your L button to land back on the planet. Check your fleet using "I" button to assess any losses in ships. You can redo from last save point if you've taken to much casualties.

3) Keep doing step 2. Each time you do it your enemies will get killed off more and more until they're all toast.

4) Recoupe your losses by capping all the enemies left lying around. There will be a lot so always hire as many extra crew as you can. With enough crew you can cap multiple ships between landings.

5) Keep landing on the planet after you've capped a few enemies to repenish your extra crew. I also recommend that you park your capped enemies each time you land to keep them safe.

6) Once complete, unpark all your capped ships and head to the nearest ship yard to sell.

Ta da

You had a fleet of 9 bactarians and got jumped by human bounty hunters and had a problems with them? Your bactarians were armed right? I never seen a bh fleet that would stand up to that force. Also a trick that would have made that easier jump as a fleet (hold j till aligned).
Funny, I did this on the FW story and when dominating Sol

Not everyone is a veteran player, donut. Be nice. A good tip on how to handle unexpected situations for the people who, ya know, haven't been playing for years, is a great thing to see and should be supported.

Another good tip is to focus fire from your escorts. Select nearest target (R) and than press (F). This will command all of your escorts to focus fire on the chosen target thus destroying it real quick. The more guns firing on a single ship, the faster it is destroyed. Just don't forget to switch targets fast.
Good hunting!

To donut's comment, any time that I tried to hyperjump and hold down J key, there were too many of them attacking me to get in position. Their fire power would keep pushing my ships. When I say ambush, I mean that a good portion of my radar was flooded with bounty hunters.

However, I am a newbie. I have now built up my fleet to 12 bacties. Maybe I do need to arm them differently. I just kept the default armaments from ship yard. Basically green lasers and yellow torpedos. I welcome any suggesions on better arms. Thank you.

If you've done the Free Worlds storyline, sheltering the traitor, you get a cloaking device. You can use it on your main ship to get by these things. Halt your fleet at the system you're leaving. Cloak. Fly through the troublesystem. Call your fleet to you.

Thanks for the info recneps. I'm guessing that I do the Free Worlds storyline by checking space ports on Free World planets?

that's how it starts, yes.

Needless to say, there will be other ships you'll be able to get that are far more powerful than what you have access to. It'll be a lot of gameplay but you're going to have a lot of fun.

I find that point defense turrets should always be included. Most alien factions use some form of missile, and many pirates do as well.
