Do you use expendable weapons?
To me, since the beginning the first step to refit the ship is sell all the missiles. On the early game, it looks too costly to maintain the ammunition so I just sell them all. On the mid to further, I don't need that much firepower to use such costly weapon for I can obliterate most 'threat'(if you call those suicide volunteers) in few seconds without those, and it requires me to resupply in order to use it.

So... is it really have any uses? Sometimes one to three pirate ships are keep shooting missiles from afar so I need to order my escorts to destroy them, but that's all I need for the longer arm. Also it is nothing but the scouring the remaining, rather than actual fight.

Yes NPC fleets are use it well, for they don't have the problem to resupply and they don't need to flight longer. Some races have very powerful missiles. But is it really handy for the players?

---------------------------------------------------------------

And there is an another one - the fighters. Is there any uses for them, aside one-use distract? On the fleet versus fleet battle, they are easily obliterated as they are march through the area where the bullets are passed by. You can make your own ship much stronger instead as well.

Spoiler

It's the Quarg v. Sestor fight at farpoint. I would like to win without any ally losses xD. I just checked my fleet and in that play through I had no 349s, just some 256s, 30 smaller automatas (still strongest section of my fleet), Shield Beetles, Korath Raiders, 1 Hurricane, 1 Derechos, 1 Tempest, 1 Albatross, Republic Cruisers and Carriers, Bactrians, Solifuges, 1 Dreadnought, 1 Kestrel

As I don't tend to roam around with a big fleet, and strongly prefer turrets when it comes to direct-fire weapons, I like to fill every gun port on my flagship with Torpedo Launchers. Great for thinning enemies from beyond their range, and the ammo is widely available from the biggest faction in the centre of the map.

Ammo availabilty is the main limiting factor on me wanting to use consumable weapons. Flamethrowers run on fuel, so they're great too. The factions outside the Republic have some cool missiles, but since I can't get supplies delivered to me, having to spend an in-game fortnight travelling to one corner of the map and back for a single reload is really undesirable.

Do you have an arfecta yet? Could easily win pretty much anything alone with an arfecta, put bufarer steering/thrusters, crucible-class steering, and anvil-class engine which fills the engine space and just kite everything until you win

edit: this is one of my arfectas, i got all 3 and the setups i have are identical

depends where you are in the game, i edited in the spoilers on my last post i should have had there but just knowing the name of the ship isnt that big of a deal if you arent far enough to get it yet.

They show up once you rediscover the pug during the wanderer campaign. There are only 3 in the game, 2 go to the Ap'arak system when you request the pug to help defend the wanderers from the unfettered hai, and the 3rd shows up in the Pug iyik system when you have a low enough (-100 i think) relation with the wanderer pug. It takes a lot of rng and quick damage to be able to burst them down before they cloak away, so i wouldn't recommend trying to get one until you already have a solid fleet to do it with

Just to give a fair warning it is very ridiculously overpowered, I would attempt to finish the game through without it first if you havent already. And by ridiculously overpowered i mean you can literally dominate earth, luna, and mars at the same time using it without breaking a sweat. So its something you should avoid getting until youve finished the game or at least really late in the game because if you get it early it makes everything so easy that it just isnt fun

For some reason (even though I haven't gone after the Wanderer Pug (my rep with them is 0.8), the third Arfecta already shows up and insta-murders me if I try to do any Pug farming in their system.

Because if you are farming in their system you are attacking their ships which is going to drop your reputation with them, you can go into the system with a good reputation but as soon as you attack them and drop it it can spawn. If you want to farm their ships you have to fight that, luckily its only once so you get rid of it or capture it you are free to farm forever.

You are probably looking at your reputation on your last save file, which isnt updating when you die to it. So your rep is dropping low enough to spawn it but you dying wont put that rep into your last save

Thanks, I know where they are. I will heed all your warnings and put it on my list of things to do later.

Ah, got it. I haven't actually gone after it for a while since I kept dying, but I'll give it another shot with my flammenwerfer-Kestrels and Petrels.

Possibly a dumb question, but do NPC ships (friendly and hostile) have infinite ammunition? Or can they run dry?
jafdy May 14, 2021 @ 12:53pm
They have only finite amounts of ammo, although many of them carry extra beyond what the weapon can normally carry.
