game went hi res, don't want it. endless-sky-high-dpi
I flipped in and out of an endless sky game on my 10" XPS with a 3200x1800 hi res screen and the game went hi res. I went into the plugins and found a hi res plugin, I didn't put it there, (endless-sky-high-dpi) I removed it and it didn't go away.
I have to put my face 6" from the screen to read the text.
How do I get the lower res back?

In the preferences there's a setting called main zoom factor. Changing that will change how zoomed in the entire game is, UI included. The high DPI plugin actually has no bearing on this, simply switching over to higher resolution images when you increase the zoom factor enough. If you're needing to get close to the screen, it sounds to me like you alt-tabbed out of the game and it reset the zoom factor to 100% where it was previously higher. So if you increase the zoom factor again but got rid of the high DPI plugin, you might actually notice the images being lower resolution.

what even is the point of the high dpi thing

It's for higher resolution screens. Say a part of the UI is 100 pixels tall on your 1920x1080 display. It'll still be 100 pixels tall on a 3200x1800 display, but now takes up less actual space on the screen. So you increase the zoom to make the screen space match closer, but because you're increasing the size of an 100 pixel tall image to say 170 pixels, it gets blurrier, so you replace it with the high DPI images that are rendered at double the resolution.

Thanks Amazinite. I should have found that myself. Something in the middle is quite nice.

I do have problems sometimes tabbing in and out, ES occasionally goes into a lag mode. It's not a big deal because I quit and restart in nanoseconds. But I kept an eye on when and it's when the 'other' app is full screen. (Linux, Ubuntu AND Fedora)

This is the first time this happened. I really should set up a kvm. Typing on the wrong keyboard gets me in trouble quite a bit.

Yeah, the game can have issues with alt-tabbing out for some reason. I imagine it’s more of a problem playing full screen, but I just play windowed mode and minimize the game when I need to hop to another window.
