More Thrust vs More Steering
What do you normally consider more important when it comes to selecting engines for a ship: faster movement, or faster turning?

If I'm using a ship with more turrets, then thrust, but If I'm using a ship with more gun ports, steering, but generally an even balance.

If the ship has more gun ports than turrets, steering, for example, a Vanguard or Shield Beetle.

I either go for a balance or steering > thrust. I can't stand having low steering.

Thats why its anoying to use a Bactrian for a flagship, but I like the amount of cargo for capturing enemy outfits.

Depends on ship weight and engine cap tbh. usually i will be able to balance, but if not i will go thrust over steering in light ships and steering over thrust in heavier ships. this is to maximize their potential in their specific roles.

Same, I like turning heavy ships in to ion cannon turrets. Light ships in to high speed chasers.

Turning if you are a tank or need to turn fast to jump away, thrust is great for running away from dangerous ships. I personally think Bactrians need a balance, Deep Rivers need turning if you plan on capping outfits, since it is also a tank, thrust isn't important, especially with an AI fleet.

Depends.
If I am using the great Protector, thrust >> steering.
If I am using the sucky baatraam, steering > thrust.
If I am using the master Shield Beetle, Thrust = Steering.

I always prioritize thrust over steering because the difference gap is enormously big.

For example a Bactrian installed with both Hai Bufaer engines (170k turn, but 400k thrust!) vs any other combination, for me, can reach everything exponentially quicker, it lands on planets faster, and it also reaches target ship (for boarding) way faster, the steering rate for reaching a place is irrelevant because the ship will simply calculate and turn around more early, but it arrives there twice or even three times as fast.

It can chase+hit any ship even while repelling them with plasma turret/ion cannon/banisher + detainer combo, it can chase those pesky Republic 'hit and run' missile spammer and catch up to them easily, and it can make my fleet regroup twice as fast after they're done chasing everything even if they're far away and I need to press G to protect my main ship.

Well that would classify as balanced thrust and steering, since they are both the same grade of the same tier of engine (both huge-hai).

Yeah, it is balanced for what I call Atomic-tier engines xD you get the best bang for your buck.

Korath Stellar engine might be more outfit space friendly with better performance, but the amount of extra heat shunts that I have to install nullify whatever saved space I get initially.

No you don't, Korath engines are the most powerful (Although they may be exceeded by Coalition engines in 0.9.5.)

The Coalition engines are SUPER energy efficient, but even worse in terms of heat efficiency compared to the Korath engines.
