How to Buy outfits, and move them into Cargo

I'm trying to do a lil' project, but it seems I can't buy outfits and move them to the cargo hold. It will auto apply them to my ship (which won't even let me buy because all my outfit types are maxed out).

Is there no way to do this?

Yeah unfortunately not. The typical thing to do is to find a ship you Aren't going to use that is somewhat large, strip it, and then fill it with the outfits you want to save. it's annoying, but it works.

There are some check boxes in the lower left of the outfitter, some combination of those will allow you to buy to cargo. You can also do this by deselecting all your ships using Ctrl+click.
I suspect Genghis refers to storage of outfits without a ship to carry them.

You are beautiful. Thank you! I always assumed that just showed what was available without the menu being muddled with already installed outfits!

This is one of those systems in the game that aren't really made apparent, and efforts have been made over the versions to make it more visible, but it's still not quite there yet (not a complaint, just an observation). A lot of the management in the game expects you to already know how to do it (not really a bad thing, it means less handholding, but it can make it frustrating for people who don't know).

Either things have changed, or my display isn't showing all the checkboxes. If I deselect the ships, I can't buy anything. Unchecking both boxes shows me just what is installed. Checking both deselects my ships and prevents me from buying anything. Checking one or the other shows exactly what it says it will show. No combination allows me to buy things as cargo. Which makes a certain mission impossible.

Do you have enough cargo space? When you deselect the ships/select both checkboxes, on the right side of the screen it should say "cargo space: <x> / <y>".

If that's causing trouble, though. no mission requires outfits to be in cargo, it just makes it easier. You can always install them to your ship directly.

I tried installing them on the ship and then selling them at the outfitter. It didn't work. So I edited the save file, put the items in the cargo, and got my reward the next time I landed.

Press "R" on the installed item when in an outfit shop, would move them to station storage.
Press "Ctrl + Click" on your ship icon on the top right corner to de-select your ship, afterwards, anything bought in the outfit shop will now go to your cargo.
