Different games might use different libraries, it is possible that you have a compatible version of libraries for other games (e.g. Stellaris), but not OpenGL for this particular title. Think of it as of speaking a language, your computer might "speak" a few on various levels and knowing one does not guarantee knowing another.

Either way, what's the exact error you get when trying to start the game?

im getting Unable to query the GLSL version OpenGL version is 1.1.0 (SDL message "operetaion is not supported")

We'll need to know what grpahics card (and/or processor) your computer has in order to confirm whether or not it is possible to get support for OpenGL 3. I suspect it isn't.
If that is tha case, it may be possible for you to run a version of the game modified by a community member to lower to OpenGL requirement, though, I think it's behindthe latest updates and I don't know if it will run on OpenGL 1, or at all, in your case.

I'd suggest you try to upgrade your driver... if impossible try to get a newer graphic card... OpenGL 3 has been a standard for over 10 years. If you go to a lower version (if it exists) you'll miss a lot in graphics or in smoothness of running the game

that is weird, seeing how stellaris requires DirectX 9. most drivers capable of DX9 should also give you OpenGL 2 or 3, at least.

ES will simply refuse to run with OpenGL versions older than 3. updating the drivers is a good idea, though.

If that doesn't help, can you give us a DXDiag log? here[hopper.minecraft.net]'s a guide how to get one. (But don't submit it to minecraft)

Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1 is this my graphic cardi am not sure
M*C*O  [developer] May 15, 2019 @ 3:25am
that is indeed your graphics chip. According to this document[software.intel.com], that series of chips only supports OpenGL 2.1 and a few parts of OpenGL 3. that's not enough to run Endless Sky, i'm afraid.

You might also have a dedicated graphics card, i really can't tell without the dxdiag log. that's why i asked you for the full log.

if you're sure you don't have one, you can get one that supports OpenGL 3 for a few bucks (unless you have a laptop, there's not enough space for a graphics card). refer to this question[nvidia.custhelp.com] for some examples. that includes the entire 8 series[en.wikipedia.org] (referred to by nvidia as 8000 series), which you can get used for maybe 10 or 20 bucks. if you're lucky, you might even get a much better card for that price.

Note: before buying, let a knowledgeable person have a look at your computer and the card's specifications, to make sure it does fit in there.

shame i am using a laptop

The game is an amazing one, and if we could we would absolutely help you get it running on your laptop.

Unfortunately your computer is simply not able to work with endless sky, and there isn't anything we can do to change that.

If you get a chance to upgrade your computer or get a new one, that's the best thing we can recommend for you.

MAYBE there's a SLIM chance that the Linux version of it will not be that demanding... Just load a (modern) Linux OS (LINUX is for free and it can run parallel to Windows) and give it a try...
Siluda May 15, 2019 @ 1:15pm
well there only one way to know if ti will work
jafdy May 15, 2019 @ 1:58pm
Linux isn't going to sudenly support OpenGL3...
Wrzlprnft May 15, 2019 @ 3:42pm
Indeed. A hardware issue that is basically just lacking certain chip parts for certain functions won't be fixed with a software change.
