Drone Hunting quest
So, I have the quest.
As I figure it is supposed to go:
Find a Republic Cruiser.
Get it to launch it's drone
Disable the Drone
Dock with the Drone.
Steal the main Component.

Optional: Have a pirate around that forces the Cruiser to launch the drone. Only hit it once to disable it.

Things is:
Where are good places to do this hunting?
What is a good ship to do said hunting with? Surveilance Drones are damn fast!
I read somewhere tehre is a way to just save-edit to needed part into your Cargo Hold. I am about willing to just go that way now. What do I have to add?

Hang around in Alnasl, I'm not going to tell you how to edit your save since this gives you more combat experience.

Kornephoros is also a good system if the asteroids don't aggrevate you...

In fact, they might save you from the retribution rainmakers might try and give you.

True although I didn't encounter too many rainmakers when I did this mission...

I did it in Komephoros, after retrofitting Lasers.
Blasters (even turrets) seem plain useless against Drones.

Projectile weapons are pretty much useless any time you are trying to capture stuff. Projectile stacks are more likely to kill wat you are trying to disable.

sidewinder missles are pretty good at disabling them due to low damage and good homing, just be sure to not fire too many so you dont accidently blow it up.

I personally prefer to hang around the Aldhibain system. There's probably some drones just waiting to be taken.

imo, the best strategy would actually be to hang around in an uninhabited system next to a Navy base, e.g. Hintar. Almost, if not completely zero chances of pirates interfering, and Navy fleets are usually rare enough to never be a problem, while still common enough to not make you die of boredom impatience.

Surveillance drones are only ever found in "Navy Surveillance" fleets, which I assume from reading the code have a 50% chance of either spawning two stock Gunboats, or a single Cruiser and four Surveillance Drones.
In the latter case, as soon as the cruiser enters the system, it launches its drones, and leaves shortly after (but not before destroying the first hostile ship it sees, if any).

Hang on a planet away from the systems' star, wait for the drone to come close, turn on auto fire on prefferences, disable the drone with LASERS, steal the pod and gtfo of there

TRIGGER
DISCIPLINE

I, personally, never destroy ships i intend to disable and i almost always use projectiles.

Using large fleets breaks the game, removes any amount of challenge, and just is downright not super fun. I mean, playing god-mode is boring AF for most people. It's like using an aimbot.

Less than 20 ships at any given time, 20 is my maximum.

Generally speaking I run solo.

Fighting and capping kor automa or stealing skylances with t1 ships, ~10-15.
Sinsling Dec 6, 2016 @ 4:56pm
I typically run about 4-5 ships. Just saying, hoping they dont kill ♥♥♥♥ when they have projectile weapons is a pain. Lasers are much more cap friendly.

Trigger control is easy for the player ya, but with no hold-fire toggle your fleet is very trigger happy until they 100% know the enemy is disabled.
Ker Dec 6, 2016 @ 5:03pm
even with my fleet capped at 20, running projectiles, normally R2space works for trigger discipline.

As long as im not using pug seekers or ammo based weapons, im golden.

Keep hitting R to find the next nearest enemy ship, 2 to get them to fire on that enemy - whomever it may be, space to control your own fire rate.

Unless its literally a 1 on 1 fight, which almost never happens. if it does, i make my fleet hold position.
