Catalytic ramscoop vs fuel pods
Is it better to use 1 catalytic ramscoop and no fuel pod, or 1 normal ramscoop and 1 fuel pod?
they are essentially the same space so I'm wondering if over the course of 5 jumps using a scram drive (800 fuel required) the former would work just as well.

I recommend fuel pods. You still have to wait for the catalytic ramscoop.

Depends on your long game...are you going beyond human space? If so, a ramscoop will be a big help...

Well currently I always try and have on a normal ramscoop and then fuel pods until I get to 800 fuel, I'm just wondering if the last fuel pod would be negated by the higher ramscoop value.

I prefer to use both, being honest. But it really does come down to playstyle, and what ship you are using naturally. Each ship has different natural fuel capacity, too.

Never bad to have a ramscoop.

I'll always have a ramscoop, my question is does the catalytic ramscoop collect fast enough that it would offset a loss of a fuel pod over the same jumping period. I'm thinking no but figured someone has made the calculation.

I usually make sure I have 600 or more fuel, for long trips, but I always have ramscoop. Catalytic ramscoops are a great option.

If you use fuel-guzzling outfits such as the Flamethrower or Cloaking Device , I would recommend having at least one catalytic ramscoop. If you have a more mainstream fleet, extra fuel pods is probably better.
For my flagship (naturally a bactrian), I install multiple ramscoops (usually 20) so I can have infinite cloak

Infinite cloak is possible with 1 catalytic ramscoop and 2-3 wanderer ramscoops .

The more ramscoops you have the further you can drift from the star. Which is nice because you can get up and go to the bathroom or even take a nap while the Kor beat themselves up and not worry about dying.

2 to 3 ramscoops and enough fuel pods for 1000 fuel is my set up

My Baccy, The Stalingrad has fuel cap 1000 and 6 W. Ramscoops. I hates running on fumes!
