[Spoilers] Late Game flagship/fleets
Anyone else feel like it would be awesome if there was a bigger, better, tougher Bactrain?

I love mine (aside from looks, man is it ugly!) but when you get to the late game it's just too squishy. Even the light warships from the wanderers outclass it in terms of total shields/hull. (Autumn leaf has more shields and only slightly less hull, in a ship 1/4 the weight)

But there's nothing else in the game that has even close to the versatility of the bactarain, or as much outfit space if you fill it with expansions, or as much bunk space if you fill it with bunks.

The kestrel is cool, but by the time you get access to it, lets face it, it's pretty mediocre. And it doesn't have the flexability of the bactrain anyways.

The Derecho is fantastic as a fleet ship (Replaced all my shield beetles with them) but the lack of cargo and bunk space makes it a poor choice for a flagship.

Basically I feel like the Bactrain was awesome when it came out, but now it's outclassed and could use a rebalance or sucessor. The specs of the Bactrain are the perfect design for a do-anything flagship, but it's just too squishy later on. Having a single, more powerful ship would feel more "right" in the game instead of needing a fleet of 10+ alien heavy warships to protect me all the time.

What's everyone else think?

I agree that it is a little squishy, but i hope they just buff it rather than completely nerf it. Cuz i'm still in love with mine

I say we nerf the baccy as planned, and then introduce a T2 version of the baccy that actually works as a flagship in the same capacity that the Baccy does. Maybe a more combat-oriented offshoot/variant of the Deep River?

Yeah, there being no other viable flagships is the problem.

Define "viable flagship"

id assume it'd be:
High Cargo
High Bunk
decent health
aight Armanent space
(I'm not a speed person, max 210 speed all the way)

It's quite squishy in terms of outright hitpoints, having 1/4 the hit points of late game ships that can be equipped the same way (Dericho for example).

Permacloak and nothing can touch you, unless you're on top of an exploding Archon.

Sidenote: I have been killed at full health by an exploding Archon.

*antimatter cannon*
*gridfire turret*
*escorts' explosions*
*literally anything that has splash damage*

er i just jump into a system, and if the locals don't like em, i subject them to a hail of Detainers,Disruptors, and Sunbeam Hell.

to that note, my Baccy flagship fits rather well in that role, but i'm thinking of hopping over to an Alliance Battleship (I know it's SU, but idk)

it's all fun and games until a 349 comes exploding when you're cloak healing. D:

Cargo = outfit space, giving you those extra bunks. I know you know that.

Your post still makes exactly zero sense.

I still use the Bactrian. I can't get passed the cargo space.
I don't want to admit it but I guess it is somewhat OP, but at the same time when you get farther along aliens will tear it up if not you're not careful.

Maybe having it appear later in game, some place along the FW?

that's the post he reffered to. of course you can convert, but avior assumed fr4nk1yn actually utilizes the cargo space as cargo space

I use a Marauder Falcon (Engines) as a flagship- faster than an Arfecta, 80 crew for decent boarding ability, and with some creative juggling I've gotten it up to 150 cargo space.

Stylish and fun.

Bactrian isn't squishy late game, equipped properly it's quite nearly invincible.

I am probably not outfitting my Bactarian right if my ship with sunbeam guns can't take down a Carrier. The moment I switched to Derecho the Carriers stood no chance.

I get it, but if bunk space matters to you then cargo space matters to you. So saying that cargo space doesn't matter, I just want bunks, is a statement with literally zero applicability in a balance discussion.

That's the problem with having so much customization available. Everything has to be approximately equal, because every ton of cargo space is 0.75 tons of general purpose outfit space.

So a flagship must have cargo and bunks, but having significant cargo space means a reduction in general outfit space to keep the max down, because outfit space is just about all that matters. Can we cap mass expansions? Maybe 3 per ship? Then we can have cargo on our looting vessels without getting a ship that can potentially have 1100 outfit space.
