There's also Star Control 3 and it's pretty hated.
I remember an older game (10+ years) called "Solar Winds" (iIrc). It gave me hours of fun.

Sadly, it seems that more than a few EV-esque games with potential simply never get as large and relatively completed as Endless Sky. Take Naev, for instance - it is not that its story is bad, but for its years of development it has much, much less of it implemented as missions in-game than Endless Sky.
20+ years.
Great game, like an advanced version of asteroids where you're fighting off aliens and mining and upgrading your ships and starbase, plus a few bossfights. It has a story but nothing as big as the one in ES, EV or SC. If you're more into the top-down combat aspects of a game like Endless Sky this is for you.
