Lords of Magic 2
so since just after this game droped back in 98 i have been hoping and praying that a legitimate sequal would emerge but with the death of sierra and subsiquent property rights hell for its ips i had all but givent up hope. but now its on steam as it has been made avalible by rebellion.

So am i alone in this hope for a sequel or are there others? to be honest i preorder a collecters edtion or what ever if they just made a modern updated version with all the core concepts and lore intact?

I would probably buy it. The world is too rich not to revisit.

i would buy the sequel for sure.
Mantera's mods are the closest you are going to get to a sequel right now.

One of the oldest game I spent a lot of time playing. I would buy "Lords Of Magic 2", for sure, too :)

One of the few games i never stopped playing. A worthy successor would be greatly apprecciated! But it would be very important to me that a sequal would not cut out complexity nor style. The game is great the way it is. Bugfixes, better controls and UI, upgraded visuals etc. would be great, but this game has a magical style thanks to its artstyle, music, oldschool fantasy feel and deeper lore. It will be hard to recreate the soul of this game.
Imho it should be some kind of turnbased Grandstrategy and Pen&Paper-Like-RPG mix.

I found Age of Wonders series to be pretty similar, AoW2/3 also look a lot more up-to-date. Main difference is turn based battles in AoW. It's also a bit more Civilization-esque than LoM.

That said, of course I would love a LoM2 on the level of AoW3.

I am a huge fan of AoW. I think the first one came out a year after LoM. It has a very similar feel, except for the turn based battles.

I would too.

An updated UI / AI LoM with TBS overmap + real time battles (which are more exciting than the minutes-long march / slog that is the total war series) would be really fun.

Sadly, I doubt it'll happen, but one can hope, since so many other classic series have been getting a refresh.

I 100% would buy it and if it has multiplayer would buy for most of my friends!

An actual sequel is unlikely. However there are a few games kind of similar.

The Dominions series is moving into real time combat with Dominions 5, making it somewhat similar, however Dominions is a very complex game by comparison, and is much more spell focused, with absolutely massive spell lists. It's an expensive game, so I might recommend waiting for Dominions 5 unless Dominions 4 goes on sale, so you don't buy the same game twice.

If you want a more linear, RPG like game, I'd go for Conquest of Elysium, which is made by the same group that made Dominions. It's very hit or miss though. It's got a cool feature where you can go to other realms including elemental planes, but there is little reason to do so right now and the feature currently feels like it's simply an idea to be fleshed out in the next game in the series.

Probably the most similar games are the ones inspired by Master of Magic. Age of Wonders is a notable example. Combat isn't real time, but otherwise it's similar in that you have different schools of magic, races and slight 4X leanings. There are other Master of Magic inspired games, but Age of Wonders is the most well known, and possibly the most similar to this game.

A more 4X type game would be Fallen Enchantress. Sorceror King Rivals is probably even closer due to having a singular powerful kingdom with a tyrant as a villain, but it's not as good in the opinions of many. Both games have fairly strong RPG mechanics.

If the real time combat with pause was your thing. Total War: Warhammer might be the game for you. I personally really enjoy it, but it doesn't feel very similar.

100% would buy

Would buy, but only after positive reviews came back. Probably a year of my life has been lost on this game but my experience with the Age of Wonders series is that the diversity of play has gotten limited for balance in more modern versions, which makes it fun, but a different game.
Disciples 2 fills a similar sort of niche as LoMSE for me.

Would buy, if the price was actually affordable...& I don't mean: "Affordable" to the Rich, either. Should be the same price, if not lower than the Boxed "Lords of Magic: Special Edtition ($20.00).

I would definitely buy.

@cutie $20 would be the price of a remaster maybe. If it was a legitimate full production sequel I would expect $40-60
