Old Ones am i missing something?
So i did win my first game on a large map as high cultist.

It was a blast to have so many old ones in the same army in the end game phase, reading the manual (btw i don't read a game manual with such interest since UO) in the high cultist class section i found : the high cultist is just a human and have to contact an old one to go into a realm he couldn't go otherwise.

In my game i just collected LOT of sacrifices and summoned old ones as if there was no tomorrow, but the manual suggests there is more to do...

So : How to reach the pinnacle of high cultist rituals, where i have to send my old one and what i have to do?

"Normal" humans are capped at level 2 void magic. For level 3 space magic you need to use a Star Spawn, the pink octopus wizard, which can be obtained with the old one summoning ritual. The Star Spawn can summon uncontrollable Horrors unto target (or close, it can be random) locations. You can summon powerful horror units on enemy armies and that will wipe them out, although be warned that they are aggressive against you as well.

My complaint is that you can't see the battles the enemies fight against with the horrors you unleashed on them. I really wish you could.

High Cultists don't have Ritual of Grand Mastery so they can't get to lvl3. In order to get lvl3 rituals you have to control some Old Ones. Getting those creatures as well as Starspawns just opens up new options for you and I think that is what description implies.

Edit:
Well, I was beaten to it.

You always see the first fight of a horror you unleash if you manage to call them directly on a commanders face where you just previously revealed the map with astrology.

Not seeing the battles of the summoned horrors was extremely annoying. It would be really nice to see them without needing extra spells for that.

On the other hand, considering how much they sucked in my last High Cultist game, it's probably better that I didn't see them...

Hm. In CoE3, it automatically scryed whatever tile they were summoned onto for free, so you'd always see their first battle. I guess they changed that.
I've basically just finished first game as a Cultist, which was a one-sided massacre. Such a refreshing change from sub-par Dom's R'lyeh.
Question that arose from me - is there any way to get the really scary Void beings, like Otherness and such? I've seen Void Lord, Starchild, Deep King/Queen... Is there others to be had? Not counting calling wild Horrors.
Description of the Void Lords suggests there are some bigger things to be had.

Is proximity to Void Portal Necessary? Where are those found? I tried a ritual on the edge of the void/sea to no success.

I never found any extra void creatures, nor means to actually control void spawns.

However, don't underestimate astrology+summon spam. I like to position all my star children (maybe just 2-3) well protected in a fortified citadel. I'll spam astrology until I find a citadel, then unleash 3+ horrors on it depending on strength, type of horror summoned, and and if any of them "missed" Early/mid game you use your deep ones to steamroll your closest neighbours. After sitting high on the hog with all your new sacrifice income, you can just sit back and "snipe" enemy citadels as you bombard their lands with roving packs of horrors. I usually win the games without exploring half of an enormous map. The greater and lesser horrors are fairly cheap for their power. A few turns of long-distance horror bombing can sometimes wipe out an AI faction you haven't even bumped into yet. If nothing else, it wrecks their economy and helps you win a war of attrition.
Ho-hum...
Good to know. Much obliged.

Still want my pet Otherness... :csdmeh:
