Struggling to do the mechanics to close the dimensional rifts
Sadly my most common death so far is closing the dimensional rifts since I can't seem to figure out how it works. I did have a sealed one once, and did find the sealed rune and unsealed it, but still, I can't get the actual rift done before I get killed by monsters. I realize from other discussions that I need to cast the left, then the right rune. Do I need to be standing anywhere in particular to cast it? Like in the rift, outside the rift, on each rune when I cast, or over the question mark in the middle (and even clicking on the question mark and getting the text before I cast?). Thanks for any help! :portal:

Where you stand doesn't matter, you just need to incant the two runes. When you enter the room, go into casting mode to pause the game. Then unpause and look at the rift for a second to make out the two runes. They are the same color as the rift and move in a circle on their respective side of the rift. If you can't make the rune(s) out, unpause for another brief moment to make them move. It is always possible to close it before anything spawns.

Sometimes not even just unpause, because the runes are easily seen.
Just use the two runes *It doesn't cost ANY Sanity, neither does incanting a single rune that's on the wall* And bam...if it doesn't close, then its because there's an Anchor that keeps it open, you have to find it and remove it before it can go away.

The only potential confusion I can see (after breaking the anchor to make the runes visible) is that the two runes are cast as a single spell rather than two seperate castings (the same way you cast actuall spells).

Good to know I can stand anywhere though, I have been walking up to them risking obscuring runes and monsters spawning.

Thank you so much everyone. I finally closed my first dimensional rift! I was casting incorrectly, only doing it one rune at a time, instead of hitting them both. It is also nice that I don't have to be munched on the middle of the rift to cast it so I did it on the other end of the screen.

No problem...though it is frustrating to see a lack of pattern recognition sometimes, we all need a little nudge.
