Yes. It is absolutely normal.

Look at it this way: the computer has to render TWO FULL INSTANCES of that map at the same time, in order for it to work properly. The npcs are all moving around, interacting, sometimes chasing you, etc. there are bloodflies, dogs, dialog, and other things, all in addition to the actual graphics changes between the maps.

This game's engine relies very heavily on CPU in addition to your GPU. So if you have a disparity between the quality of the cpu and your gpu, that may be affecting this level in particular. But no it's not unusual at all, it is the most complex mission level in the game (... maybe ANY game, i don't know) so it should be expected to drop.

Strange, I'm on a 6 year old custom build (2600K, 8GB, and a $140 950 that was on sale last year when my original 580 died), and that level has a far more stable framerate than others with a lot of draw distance intensive city scenes. I don't notice any dips at all when using the time travel device with the fans up or when transitioning.

I totally disagree with the above poster about it's complexity. It is a small level, and isn't rendering two levels at once; it's one big level only you are in half of it any given time. All you are doing it portal'ing to the other side that you can only reach via the time device. Just about any PC-only game has levels far more complex in terms of geometry and complexity.

well my cpu is not a bottle neck its an i7 7700k along with 16gb of 3200mhz ddr4 RAM. i havent overclocked it though just used the xmp profile for the memory to run at its speed.

Its not CPU, its the GPU being used up

What settings did you play at

you are out of your mind if you think dropping below 60 fps on low settings at 1080p is normal for a 1080 ti.

Dude, will you please stop trying to assert your epeen into *everything* here?

Some of us *don't give a rat's distilled butt* about fps. Obviously something needs tweaking on their options and/or machine, but this level is in point of fact *notorious* for this exact drop.

it is not about epeen, you ignorant ♥♥♥♥. OP said drops even on low settings at 1080p and you still claimed it was "absolutely normal" when I know ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ well that it is not "normal".

you know only your computer's response, Trek. This is a well known issue at that specific level. Just because you firmly want to believe everything should be fine and dandy on that card, on low settings, blah blah blah. Seriously man. Stop telling people things that they know aren't true.

Game is mostly 1080p60 on max settings on my RX 580 I'm currently using. However bringing up the Time piece glass can tank the FPS between 33 to 45 fps, with the GPU at full usage and I'm using the Dynamic Rez scaler set to 75% if it drops under 60.

A 1080 Ti not getting 1080p60 on low settings? Something weird about that, but yeah, looking through the Time piece is the most intensive thing in the game.

and I have the damn game too, you midget minded ♥♥♥♥. I am no where near dropping below 60 fps on low, medium, high or even very high if only at 1080p. in fact I normally run at 1440p all ultra except shadows on high. and the ONLY reason I run shadows on high is because that setting is cpu intensive and will pull me below 60 fps in a few spots in the game. if I could oc my cpu higher than I would have NO drops below 60 fps on ultra at 1440p at all anywhere. so AGAIN it is nowhere near normal for a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 1080 ti to struggle with 60 fps on low settings at 1080p on that level.

its only when i bring out the time peice that shows throug both times.. otherwise its 60fps 4k max settings

Dunno what to say. Using the Time piece basically makes the game render 2 levels at the same time. Normally the game culls whatever isn't in view, so you have the performance you have usually most of the time. The Time Piece however needs to show 2 levels at the same time (even if it's just a small frame of the other level). Both are occullled, but it's still intensive.

Sounds similar to the problem with mirrors. So many murky mirrors in every game I play.
