Long Pre-Load Screen? Why?
So... I am definitely lost as to why this game has such a slow Pre-load into the games main menu. What part of the development brought this to be part of the game? I have it on my SSD and of course is seems to show not much, if at all, any time difference in the time it takes for the pre-load screen to finish whether on HDD or SSD. I really feel Arkane should have stuck with the Unreal Engine on this game, not that I have anything against id Tech 6 engine. I wonder if this does it on the consoles, the Pre-Loading screen??? Anyone??? I feel like I am back in the Playstaion 1 era of when you could start the game up and go make a sandwich and come back it would almost be done loading into the game. HAHA! Ok, it didn't take that long, but you get where I am going.

I am also having issues with frame rate, but I am looking into that at the moment and have many sources explaining some possible causes and some plausible solutions to those causes.

Thanks,

It doesn't take that long to load, but the unskipable logo splashes do increase the waiting time for no good reason (dunno if there's a no_intro launch command).

Well for me it's at random, the pre-load screen will load quickly, like 5-8secs and there are other times it will take a full on 45-60sec. And this happens without restarting windows. Kinda like the first time you load up BF1 or DA: Inquisition after your computer was freshly restarted or turned on it takes roughly a minute for the game to load into your memory and than after that you can quit the game and load back in and the time is cut in half or less, but this game I can start it once and it takes roughly a minute and at other times its less than 10secs. This excludes splash screens.

Id tech 6? No no no.... Doom runs on Id 6 and it runs flawlessly. This game runs on Id 5 and that is the reason why the performance sucks so much. Id 5 is like a huge trashcan of code and i really doubt that the next patch will improve performance by much if any... They should have taken Unreal 4 but oh no Bethesda really wants to take the EA route and push all their games onto a single engine.

Thank you for the correction on the id tech version. I actually just realized based on another article they explained it was id tech 5. Well that is really disappointing, I have played the first one multiple times and tweaked it through the ini files and other means hence the liking of the UE. The first one was really enjoyable and loved the art style and story. I guess I can force myself to wait a few patches and play BF1 to pass the time. Hopefully with a patch they will also fix the preload time into the game. And yes, I agree with you, they should have just stuck with Unreal Engine and did the newest installment (UE4). Gears of War 4 really shows the fidelity of that engine. Delicious eye candy graphics.

The first loading screen takes time only the 1st time you boot up the game, after that it loads smoothly.

This game does NOT run ID Tech 5. The engine is based of ID Tech 5. It is called the Void engine. It is designed specifically for this game style, and is designed for atmosphere, lighting, shadows, shading, and dynamic encounters. Only around 15-20% of the original engine remains, according to Arkane and Harvey Smith.

Exactly the same as Remus above: startup time either below 10 sec, or a full minute with 95% CPU load. After booting Windows, game 1st startup can be randomly 10 sec or 1 min. Game on SSD, i5 6600K, GTX 1080, 16Go.

It's Denuvo.

If it's shader cache management then it's buggy. I cannot think of any valid reason on why the shader cache, after computer reboot, would SOMETIMES need to be rebuilt, and sometimes not. No driver update whatsoever in my case, all observations made within the 2 first days after purchase. The Denuvo theory didn't seem confirmed in the other thread I've seen...

It's because nvidia shadercache clean the oldest shader when it reach 256mb, so when it erase you have to recompile the shader again that why the loading time take longer.

It's Denuvo. First time you start the game after computer reboot or updates or whatever, Denuvo does it's thorough check before the game loads. After that you can start up the game and it's much quicker. The same thing happens in other Denuvo games too.

A one-word response: Denuvo. The ♥♥♥♥ seems to verify the authenticity of the game's files and Internet connection at random times.

That's a dealbreaker for me. Steam is already enough DRM for my taste and at least it provides some comfort in return. I can do without more DRM on top invading my system and finding a way to make me: >The paying customer< the sucker (loading times in this case and WHATEVER the hell it scans and calls home about).

"Games with Denuvo Anti-Tamper state in EULA that "certain files of the anti-tamper technology may remain even after the product is uninstalled from your computer.""

This purchase is not ever gonna happen not even during a sale. Have nice life devs.

DRM is like a fart in a crowded subway. It's only tolerable if nobody noticed it ever existed, so it needs to be small, quiet, and virtually undetectable. The people in this thread are walking out of a metro car with their hands over their noses, which is a good warning to me to not step foot in there.

Maybe at -85% or -90% I could bare it, but the price isn't yet where it needs to be for me to breathe in a waft of Denuvo.
