Rune Crafting
Is it worth it? Most bonecharms are pretty minor and being able to level even faster seems cool to me

Bonecrafting with the upgrade that lets you stack 4 of the same bonus is really good.

4x slightly faster in stealth mode makes you move faster stealthed than you walk normally
4x the chance to recover sleep darts makes you able to recover the sleep dart nearly all the time (80% chance?)

I never really found most of the charms in game useful to begin with, let alone needing to invest to make them stronger. Making my crossbow bolts hit harder? why? One shot to the head or neck usually takes the target out. Get health back by eating rats? Health elixirs are just lying all over, and if one is being stealthy, you never really have to worry about losing health to begin with. I could go on and on listing the pretty useless effects a lot of these charms have. Only one I found remotely useful is the one where you regain mana by drinking from a faucet. That one is especially useful when using high mana cost powers like bend time. That alone though isn't worth investing so many runes to craft a stronger effect. I'd rather just spend the runes on having a wider array of powers to deal with various situations.

Do you know how many whalebone thingies to you need to craft a rune? I know you need 9 Runes to get the "rune crafting" ability.

You have to collect at least 72 whalebone to equal out the cost I think. The maximum I had at the games end, with all the bone charms I wanted to use, was 64, but I didn't scrap every special charm I found.

The really good bone charms on x4 are all better than any of the powers you can get, especially once they fix strong arms.

72 whalebones to craft runes for every ability? Passive and active?

it takes 9 whalebone to make 1 rune.

No 72 whalebones to get the runes back that you spent to get runecrafting in the first place.

The cost of upgrading to runecrafting is 8 runes, and you don't really gain anything from the trait until you craft back the amount you spent on it.

And you only get one to four whalebones per bonecharm? Doesn't seem so practical. Do you get enough Runes to buy all uupgrades or just a certain precantage?

You get far from enough runes to max out. But probably enough to fill out your preferences.

I don't think rune crafting is practical at all. At least not currently.

Destroying a rune gives 8 whale bone.
To make a rune, you need 9 whale bone (you need 36 to make up for the unlock, +18-36 more for the other skills on the way to this skill).

Ok. I probably will never use dark vision, wind blast and maybe mesmerize. Turning my enemies to ash isn't my thing either, more vitality is useless. I guess it's enough.

Depends on oyur play style. I love dark vision, but I never got mesmerize. And I don't kill on normal playthorughs so the ash things wouldn't be my thing :)

Precisely how I feel. I just collected the runes on every level that had them, gave me enough options to choose the powers I really wanted. Maybe if the rune crafting initial buy in were a bit cheaper it'd be worth it. Also considering you have to scour the levels for raw whalebone as well as collecting bone charms to break down, that's enough work as it is.

I'd set the rune cost for the two perks prior to RC lower. They are practically useless because of save scumming.
