I couldn't do that in this game because I had to relearn everything, in addition to new mechanics. It drove me up the wall that I couldn't fly through levels like the first game. However I realized that I couldn't do that in the beginning of D1 either. The entire reason we can fly through D1 today is because we put the time in to learn.
Don't let frustration get you down, just take it slow. It'll come to you with time.
It will get the same for you the more you play this game. It is tough at first, but it really does get easier once you know some basics (use shadow and cover, look up for alternative routes that don't require any engagement at all, use lean, use your powers), and as you learn the maps. Even though I had played Dishonored first, I still struggled with a couple of maps on this game, including the Clockwork Mansion and Stilton's house, but now I can do them easily. It takes some practice but is really rewarding at the end, and in subsequent playthroughs.
Try not killing someone right next to another person. Either wait until they separate due to patrol or lure one away.
Higher ground reduces visibility of your character. Find stealthier paths or higher ground.
You don't HAVE to kill everyone, though you very easily can while going pure stealth never detected if you know what you are doing.
Crossbow, or any consumable/ammo is too scarce in this game? Already shows you probably aren't stealthing right (no offense, but if you are relying on these it already brings up several questions about your approach).
To be completely honest you are definitely doing something wrong. It isn't the game. Other than one random super bionic granny NPC in a late game level stealth in this game is hilariously overpowered and easy, including early game. The game offers a ton of routes and rarely are guards grouped together making it even easier.
As for being detected to easily this is just you not being observant enough and taking bad scouting routes (typically hidden paths/higher vantage points for this, or even peeking corners and such).
Corvo's powers are best for stealth, the blink is extremely useful and enemies cannot see you while you blink. And upgraded stop time just trivializes the game.
Emily's powers are meant for a more lethal and combat approach, though they can still be used for stealth.
I am at the start of the last mission and have only missed 1 black bone charm in mission 3 and am 74 coins short overall.
