Something I found interesting regarding Paulo (spoiler)

So I'm doing a New Game+ with Emily, and this time around I decided to invest my runes into Mesmerize as I'm trying to do Low Chaos, and I decided to give it a shot when taking care of Paulo in the Dust District.

As we all know, Paulo somehow has Vera Moray/Granny Rags' severed hand on his person, which is used by him to avoid one potentially fatal attack per day, but the actual specifics on how he got her hand to begin with are ambiguous.

I used Mesmerize on Paulo and a few of his guys while in their hideout, and while regular NPCs will say things like "oooh it's so pretty!" or "it's saying something..." while under the effects of Mesmerize, I heard Paulo verbally say that he was seeing Vera (who he refered to as Granny, like her nickname) while he was being affected by it, and was talking to who I presume is also her (while also using the same speech manerisms used by Mesmerize targets) from within the Void.

We don't know the specifics of his situation or how he got her hand, but I just found this very interesting as this opens up evidence to suggest that maybe Paulo did personally know her as both Vera and Granny, especially since she was in Karnaca at least once while she was committed to Adermire at one point for her mental health. This also seems to suggest that maybe Vera never really 'died' and still has a connection to the Void, perhaps through her hand which Paolo physically owns. What do you think?

I feel pretty simple for not realizing Vera Moray is Granny Rags. -___- This, even though I've read some in-game lore about her.

Dishonored Wikia says:
"Granny Rags is killed in the sewers by Corvo during the events of Dishonored.[10]. Her Marked left hand was eventually discovered by Paolo, leader of the Howlers, who uses it in Dishonored 2 to gain Vera's power of longevity and ability to cheat death. If Paolo is killed or knocked unconscious and his body looted, Vera's hand attacks the protagonist before being thrown to the ground and crushed underfoot."

Does that mean that Corvo killing her is canon? I didn't expect that since usually the low chaos solutions have been canon. But perhaps her fate is somewhat like Delilah's (after what Daud did to her), being somehow trapped and lost in the Void.

The Wikia also says:
"During the events of Dishonored, Corvo manages to connect Granny Rags to Vera Moray, and in Dishonored 2 recognizes "Vera Moray" as the name of his old enemy."
I can't remember Vera Moray references in Dishonored, what were they? Again, I didn't think she'd be his canon enemy. After all, you could side with her against Slackjaw.

I read Corvo killing Granny Rags is cannon before the game came out, i think confirmed by Harvey Smith's twitter.

Not sure how many references there were but there's a Granny Rags journal you get as part of one of the ( initially pre-order) DLC. Part of it reads "When I lived there with my husband, we were fine, fine people. Vera Moray, everyone would say, your house is as grand as Boyle Manor. Better even. Your dinners are lavish and your parties are the best."

^Ah, no wonder I've missed it then. I only got Void Walker's Arsenal after I'd play the main game quite a lot (I bought the Definitive Edition later to get all the DLC as it was a good Steam deal). Looks like I have a reason to play the first game once again!
