Do i need to play the first game to understand this one's story?

I only played a bit of the first one and i want to get this one because it's discounted, i understand i won't understand everything if i get just this one, but does this game require me to have the first to understand what's going on?

You really don't need to play the first to follow the story (at least for the for the first few missions).

Not really, but it wouldn't hurt. The beginning of the game more or less tells you what happened in the first game (or at least the highlights) and if you read all of the books and other things in the game world, it provides a lot of the back story.

No. The short recap at the beginning of this game is sufficient. Not a whole lot happens in the original game.
