No powers stealth tips
Im trying to do a no powers run and my god not having any verticallity in your movement makes the stealth insane to do, i just don't know how im supposed to get around a huge open room filled with guards without getting spotted when i can't teleport. Any tips?

Hi.
If you've ever played/finished the Thief series; Dishonored 2 really play like those games with "no powers". It's all in the timing and watching the patrols.
I am now on Mission 7; playing on Very hard; no powers; no detection; no kills and I've managed to knock every one unconcious every level.
Best tip: Patience. It can be done. :)

Mainly yeah it's patience. And climbing. Or hiding under stuff. I've never managed no detection, but certainly no kill and low chaos can be done this way pretty well.

I like playing mostly with stealth and non-lethal interactions. I recently finished my Very Hard: No Powers: No Detections; No Kills playthrough. I added to the challenge, trying for all Runes, Bonecharms, Paintings, Blueprints and Souvenirs. It's not easy by a long shot. But, I concur. it can be done.

Almost everything (one bonecharm is inaccessable) can be reached without powers. Not having Agility makes climbing quite a challenge but, look for ways to make small jumps onto things from which you can jump to a higher spot, etc.

Patience and a little inginuity, Assbepis. With that, you'll do it.

BTW, which "huge open room filled with guards" are you talking about? Maybe we can help with that.

i was thinking for example the first big open room in hypatia's level, there are no other ways into the place apart from the wall of light that i know of and that room has very little cover and lots of dudes.

For that one, you can distract them by throwing bottles, from outside in the little foyer. If you're careful you can get them out one at a time.

Lots and lots of quicksaves. :)

Ah yes. The main entrance to the Adermire Institute. After taking out the first twp guards outside the entrance and the one just inside, you look in and see the wall of light. There are two guards and a woman. Look a little to your left and you'll see an office. Climb up on the office wall and notice some pipes that lead towards the center of the room. Jump from the pipes to a ledge that leads to the wall of light whale oil tank. From that ledge, is another way into the institute. Also, back at the main entrance, you can turn left and walk down the hallways to some double doors. This route can get you into the institute, also.

Another route that I found when doing this mission with no powers is to drop down into the water from the carraige station and swim all the way around the left side of the island. You'll eventually get to the dock where the watchtower is. Not the best way to go but, it can work.

But, remember ... just because you don't have powers doesn't mean you should give up on climbing. It may take more small jumps to get to where you want to go but, very often there are ways available.

Patience and some extra though.
Instead of trying avoid guards completely how about distracting them by throwing a bottle or shooting something away from where you want to be.

Btw, if theres no bottle available; just use ur default crossbow bolts to distract and lure them out one-by-one and then knock them out. If you're going for no kills run; thats what the default xbow bolt is good for.
Another tip: Follow the thick red cables coming out of wall of light to get to the source of the power to turn it off.

Have fun.

Patience, I'm playing ghost in the classic Thief sense of the world, that means also, no knockouts, well except for Major targets since you have no choice with them. And it's doable with no powers, it's just a much slower pace, I also suggest lowering music as much as you can lowering voice just a bit, and raising sound effects so you can more clearly hear footsteps a good headphone also helps.

I'm the only one in the house (we have 4 adults living in a 7 bedroom house, 3 of us are gamers) that uses headphones. It's annoying as hell when I'm trying to play this game with my headphones and the house owner's out in the living room 25 yards away playing whatever and I can't hear a thing. Because he's playing on a freaking 65" 5 speaker room monster of a tv at full blast.

Some games are better at 3-d sound though, than others. This one's good, weirdly Sniper Elite 3 and 4 *aren't* very good at it, and you'd think a game that relies on noise and hiding would be better for it.

Without specific mention of levels/rooms, I can't remember a part of the game where there wasn't a way around a problem on a no-powers run. Just completed one and every level has lots of paths around even without powers. I'd say keep an eye on your environment as much as possible. I love moving about in this game so I always like to find new ways around the levels, doing a no-powers run showed me how well the developers catered to the play style.

Also get creative! I got a shadow rating for the clockwork mansion (wasn't even noticed by Jindosh) on a no-powers run. My biggest hurdle was getting past a wall of light. I took a rather unethical approach and threw 5 people into the wall until it powered down. Seems those aristocrats in the waiting room were worth something!

Yeah, but those games are doable to play with subpar sound design by the simple fact they are third person, Dishonored would be impossible without good sound design given they are FPS, specially given how stingy they are with the lean distance.

Ah wow, everytime I talk about sound design and stealth I want to play Thief 2.
