Anyway - I do think that's a good point, because Emily could have been a lot more distinctive. She definitely should have had her own blade, but perhaps Corvo didn't want her to have to deal with it? He trained her, obviously, and they sparred, so clearly she DID have a sword, just not "her distinctive" one like he did.
That couldve been quite something, but there isnt much to show that. She just picks it up and uses it. What if instead she used it only for a portion of A Long Day In Dunwall, before going to the safe room and retrieving her sword from the stash she has there? That mightve been very good.
Also, possibly time constraints often leave subtle things like this on the cutting room floor.

Clockworked, just think a bit: When she's in neutral territory, she could have Fat Boy¹ strapped to her back, and nobody would care. When she's in hostile territory, she could be buck-naked with no weapons whatsoever, and it would still bring the fascists' attention and wrath upon her.
